This Service Bulletin is applicable to all CFM56-5B engines.

The combustion chamber dome P/N 2255M77G02 is affected by this Service


Bulletin.

B. Description

This Service Bulletin provides instructions to rework the affected combustion


chamber dome to P/N 2813M78G01.

Category 7

CFM recommends that you do this Service Bulletin at customer's convenience.

Impact E

This recommendation is to improve the cost of ownership, reduce maintenance


requirements or is a product improvement.

NOTE: This Service Bulletin can be done in shop.

D. Concurrent Requirements

None.

E. Reason

(1) Objective:

To introduce new parts and improve reliability.

(2) Condition:

The number of swirler part numbers available in the field is more than what
is necessary.

(3) Cause:

The number of swirler part numbers can cause confusion during maintenance.

(4) Improvement:

Reduce the number of field configurations to one, which will reduce the
quantity of spare parts drawing (SPD) part numbers and simplify repair
procedures.

(5) Substantiation:

Substantiation is by comparative analysis.

The technical content of this Service Bulletin is approved by the FAA and under the
Authority of DOA No. EASA.21J.086.

G. Manpower

After you get access to the combustion chamber assembly, you will need
approximately 24 man-hours for each engine or component.

H. Weight and Balance


Weight and balance are not changed.

The old combustion chamber dome P/N 2255M77G02 and reworked combustion
chamber assembly dome P/N 2813M78G01 are two-way interchangeable as
assemblies. Individual intermixing of the retainerless and retainer-type swirl nozzles
within the same combustion chamber dome is not permissible.

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

A. Removal
(1) Remove the affected combustion chamber dome (1, Figure 1). Removal
instructions have not changed. Refer to the CFM56-5B ESM, 72-42-00,
DISASSEMBLY.

B. Rework

APPROVAL OF REWORK SOURCES
The repair referred in this Service Bulletin contains complex processes that
could affect engine reliability and/or performance. Therefore, it is necessary to
substantiate the ability and adequacy of a repair source to successfully accomplish
the repair. A License Agreement is also required. Information concerning a License
Agreement is available from:

(1) Install the reworked combustion chamber assembly dome (1, Figure 1).
Installation instructions have not changed. Refer to the CFM56-5B ESM,
72-42-00, ASSEMBLY.
