and jitter limits
 G.8272 - PRTC compliance when locked to GNSS (±100ns to UTC)
 Holdover performance:
• Frequency: 16ppb for eNodeB ( < 1E-11/day )
• Phase : 1.1µs for eNodeB (4.5G>) ( ±1.5µs/day )
 Redundancy
• Rubidium or OCXO+
• Asymmetry Compensation (G.8273.4)
 Protocol Compliance
• G.8265.1 – Freq
• G.8275.1 – Phase
• G.8275.2 – Phase
• Telecom-2008 – Freq & Phase

Power Matters
Common Vendor Approach – GPS built-in
Disadvantages:

 Low-performance, in-phase oscillator will not maintain holdover for more than a few minutes or hours in an
improved model (type 1)

 There will be no visibility of PTP clients, since G.8275.1 is Multicast

 Router / Switch with boundary clock, is more expensive than a normal CSR

 There is no backup, if the BBS / BBU that generates synchronism fails, all other BBSs / BBUs that are in
this CSR will be without synchronism

 In case it supports asymmetry control with APTS, how good is the APTS algorithm for asymmetry control
and holdover extension?

 Using G.8275.1 the protection and synchronism responsibility of the eNB falls on the CSR = medium or low
quality oscillator (because its purpose is not to be clock source) = insufficient Holdover. Understand that
under this scenario the BC (CSR) is the GMC of the eNB

 APTS must have the ability to compensate for asymmetry and phase errors of the previous transport to the
Baseband. If it is not good enough, it does not protect the eNB as these will continue to be synchronized
from the CSR (BC) - Boundary Clock does not compensate for asymmetry.

Edge GMC as Standard for Phase Deployment
Model I
Advantages:

 High quality oscillator, maintains phase for 24 / 48hs

 Unicast / L3 flows from Edge-GMC to phase PTP clients

 Normal CSR Router / Switch, no additional hardware or software for boundary clock, cheaper and simpler

 APTS support from the core GMC clocks, Microsemi APTS algorithm high performance (adds an error of
~200ns in a week, you can extend the holdover around 1 week to phase)

 Attends frequency (16ppb) or Phase (1.1µs) needs

of 5 hops recommended for phase)

 Scalable solution, protected and security

Power Matters
Be the best in Phase Sync

Recommendations:

 Use a Unicast profile for phase: Telecom-2008 or G.8275.2 (similar and compatible)

 Synchronism and protection (holdover) responsibility must fall into a GMC

independent of the mobile or packet switching functions

 GMC must ensure correct functioning of APTS ensuring that it maintains a

minimum phase error without time reference (GNSS), it should not exceed 500ns in
a week
