accepted.
Work should be completed neatly and turned in as a pdf through schoology. Make sure to
include your name and the assignment number on the paper.

1. A diver is on diving board that is 5 m above the water. She jumps off the board with a
vertical speed of 4 m/s upwards, and lands in the water below a time later.
a. What is the time the diver is in the air?
b. What is the speed of the diver when she hits the water?
c. At what time, after leaving the board, is the diver 3 m above the water.

2. A car is traveling at 30 m/s when it starts braking and accelerating at -6 m/s2.
a. How long does it take the car to stop?
b. How far does the car go before stopping?
c. How far does the car traveling during the last second of braking?
d. How much time does it take the car to travel 40 m?

3. View the velocity-time diagram to the below.

a. During what time interval is the acceleration positive, and during what time
interval is the acceleration negative?
b. During what time interval is the displacement positive, and during what time
interval is the displacement negative?
c. Estimate the maximum acceleration.
d. Estimate the total displacement.

4. The position of an object as a function of time is given by 𝑥(𝑡) = 2𝑡 ! − 14𝑡 + 12.

Determine the following.

a. The initial position of the object.

b. The initial velocity of the object.
c. The acceleration of the object.
d. The time the object is at rest.

5. A device is made that will shoot two golf balls at the same time. One of the golf balls is
shot vertically upwards with a speed of 10 m/s and the other is shot vertically downwards
with a speed of 10 m/s. The device is placed 40 m above the ground and the two golf
balls are shot into the air upwards and downwards respectively. (use g = 10 m/s2)
a. How long is each golf ball in the air?
b. At what time are the golf balls 15 m apart?
c. The golf ball that is shot downwards hits the ground and bounces back upwards at
20 m/s. At what time will the golf balls be at the same height?
