General information:

Family: Spurges
Scientific/Botanical name: Codiaeum variegatum
English name: Garden Croton
Common name: Variegated croton
Part used as dye: Soak in boiling water
Garden Croton leaves extract contain several flavonoids, tannins, saponines and phytosterols.

Due to this chemical richness leaves extract was used in this study to dye nylon.

Characteristics of Garden Croton extract

The color was extracted without using any chemical reagent. pH of the extract was

measured and it was acidic (5.1). Colour of the extract was dark brownish yellow. In order to get exact

reproducibility in shade it is important to determine the percentage soluble matter which was calculated

and was found to be 2%.
