Battle of Yamamah

• Musailma from the tribe of Banu Hanifa in central Arabia claimed that he was the
Prophet of God.

• He got a support of 40000 men

• Musailma’s followers opined that after the demise of the Prophet the living prophet
should be preferred over dead

• The forces of Ikrama were sent by the caliph Abu Bakr with orders not to start fighting
unless shurabil forces reach to him

• Ikramah fought earlier and was defeated. Afterwards, Shurabil also reached and did the
same mistake.

• He was also defeated with a considerable loss

• In December 632 A.D. forces of Khalid bin Walid were prepared.

• He was aided by ansar under Bara bin Malik and Thabit bin Qais while by Muhajireen
under Abu Khadhifa and Zaid bin Khattab

• Sons of Abu Bakr, Umar and Abu Sufiyan also joined the expedition. Muslim ladies also
participated in the battle

• The strength of the Muslim army did not exceed 13000.

• Due to dust storm Muslims army stopped. Later 1000 horsemen led by khalid attacked
the enemy

• Abd ur Rahman, the son of Abu Bakr, killed Muhkam , the Musailma’s army commander

• Then Musailma’s army had to retreat to a garden

• Muslims followed them and in general thousands of people were killed in that garden
and there was blood all around.

• This is the reason the battle was named

• “ The battle of garden of death”

• Musailma was killed by Wahshi. A total of 14000 Of his followers were killed. 1200
Muslims were martyred, with more than 360 Huffaz of Quran. The battle restored the
Faith and authority of Muslims
