UNSEEN COMPREHENTION PASSAGE

1. Read the passage and answer the questions that follow: (15)
Ceasing fire is difficult. It is a part of high politics. Feelings run high. Attempts to bring
about peace open to misunderstanding, instead of bringing people together, attempts
at peace making sometimes set them further apart. The path of peace maker is indeed
hard. The UN has succeeded in a few cases in bringing peace where there was no peace
before. But in a great many cases the result has not been satisfactory.

The world is full of little quarrels between nations. Any one of these quarrels might be
responsible for outbreak of a new world war. Let us not despair, for there is one part of
the work of the UN that fills us with hope. This is the work of fighting social evils.

Men and women from different parts of the world of different races and religions sit
together, think, plan and actually work together to improve conditions of life in
countries they have not known before. This work brings the work closer.

4. Read the following passage taken from your text book and answer the questions
given below:
Now what are your doings with yourself when you are not working? Before
examination some students do nothing at all except sitting in a chair and worry.
Here is another misunderstanding. People often think that the mind works like a
body; it does not. If one wanted to converse physical energy in order to cut the
maximum amount of fire wood, one would lie flat on a bed and rest when one
wasn’t chopping. But the mind cannot rest. Even in sleep you dream, even you
forget your dreams. The mind is always turning. It gets its relaxation only by
variety. That is what makes the mind rest. When you’ve finished your optimum
number of hours you must stop. You must not then sit around in the chair
thinking about the work that only tires without learning. You must get out and
do something. It doesn’t matter what- anything so long as you are actively doing
something else but work.
