WATER TREATMENT AND CLEANING SYSTEMS

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including the General
Conditions, Conditions of Particular Application and Division-1
Specification Sections apply to work of this Section.
1.2 SCOPE
Furnish and install all water treatment and cleaning systems to control
chilled water system as required by the contract and as herein specified.
The water treatment programs shall be applied to control corrosion scale,
algae, fungi... Etc. in adequate manner.

1.3 REFERENCE STANDARDS

The chemicals used and methods of feeding shall comply with all code
requirements and local health codes or other standards and sound practice.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

The water treatment contractor, shall be responsible to submit the following

for approval in accordance with the Conditions of the Contract and
Division-1 specification sections.
1.4.1 Tests: Complete analysis for feeding water source(s) supplying the system.
This shall be done by authorized department.
The water treatment shall be carried out by a specialized water treatment
company, and pre-qualifications must be accepted by the consultant.
Furnishing of test checks records for corrosion and scale. The operating
instructions and service book shall be provided complete with
weekly/annual programs.

Supply one set of test kits to run following analysis on site, these kits
shall be handed to the owner:
- PH
- T.D.S.
- Chloride
- Ca H
- Cu
- Fe

- Chemical residuals

 Submit a complete analysis report for treated water for the system from
authorized department. The treatment contractor shall be responsible for
supplying chemical and satisfying water treatment requirements for one year
starting from start-up of each system. If water treatment results do not
comply with requirements, all costs shall be deducted from the contractor.

1.4.2 Shop Drawings: System installation drawings and diagrams.

1.4.3 Product Data: Water treatment products information sheets of each

component, device, valve, etc. being supplied in each system.

Recommended operating conditions for the system including cycles of

concentration, chemical test limits and limits of water system set points.

Details of chemicals, technical data, quantities, concentrations, calculations

and feeding rates for the system.

Safety and handling information.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

The chemicals shall not have any effect on non-metallic materials such as
rubber, etc.

2.1 CHEMICAL FEEDERS

Chilled water system shall be equipped with single shot chemical feeder
with internal lining to prevent corrosion.

Cooling tower (condenser) water system shall be equipped with automatic

bleeding system interconnected with the automatic chemical feeder.

2.2 TREATMENT SYSTEM

2.2.1 Closed System: Water treatment for the chilled water system shall be
carried out manually using a chemical pot feeder, of the bypass type
designed for feeding chemical inhibitor solution to system.

Unit shall be complete with strainer, hose bib, isolating valves, air relief
valve, throttling valve. Unit and accessories shall be made of suitable
materials for the chemicals used.

The amount of corrosion inhibitor required shall depend on the system water
content and the concentration level of the chemical as recommended by the
manufacturer. Water analysis and addition of inhibitors required, shall be
carried out once a week.

2.3 TREATMENT LIMITS

For each system corrosion and sitting rates shall be measured by using
suitable corrosion test coupons representing the metal in the circuit,
according to ASTM corrosion test procedure D 935-49 and A 224-46.

Cooling tower system bleeding rates shall realize concentration cycle

between 2 and 3.

The following items must be guaranteed during the course of treatment:

Closed System:

pH 10 min

Tannin index 12+

Suspended solids slight/medium

Nitrite 1250 PPM NaNO2

2.4 EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS

The treatment company shall be responsible to provide:

- Necessary equipment for chemical cleaning and passivation

(tank, piping, etc.).
- Tanks shall have inlet and outlet openings, bottom drain
with drain valve, top opening, vent opening and pressure test.
- All control panels shall be operated at 24 volts and power
supply shall be 220/380, 4 wires, 50 Hz.
- Chemicals required for treatment including the requirements
for one (1) year guarantee period.
- Chemicals and kits for checking the systems for five (5)
years.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

Installation shall be in accordance with approved systems shop drawings and

diagrams.

3.2 SYSTEMS CLEANING

All water systems shall be thoroughly flushed-out first with water and then
with the approved cleaning chemicals to remove dope, flushing compounds,
cutting oils and other loose extraneous materials. All valves shall be
blocked open and circulation shall be with external pump during application
of cleaning chemicals and with the system pump in the final flush.

By-pass must be applied during the cleaning process on the main

components:

- Chillers.
- Air handling units.
