EXPRESSION OF AGREE AND DISAGREE

kinds of intelligences we need for better future

A : Hey, B! What were you doing?

B : I was doing intelligences test by Mark Vital. I got bodily-kinaesthetic.

A : Oh, I know that test. I got intrapersonal. But, I felt that his definition of intelligence is too
broad, merely representing skills and talents and not intelligence per se.

B : I don’t think so. A good understanding of the different types of intelligence provides a
broader understanding of intelligence, suggesting that there is an array of potential and capacity
for growth that we as a society have not fully explored.

A : However, is it what we really need for the future?

B : Of course!  People who are thought to have high intelligence are valued and often considered
a cut above the rest. What is intelligence? And, is there only one kind of smarts? What if you are
useless at maths, but brilliant at languages…does that make you unintelligent? Or do you just
need a different way of framing things when you studying?

A : I guess you’re right. While some types of intelligences are generally more recognised, and
sometimes even more valued, the reality is no one type of intelligence is better than another.
Instead it is more important to know what type of intelligence you have. This can help you to
maximise your inherent advantages and highlight an area where you may need to exercise some
extra grit to succeed.

B : I totally agree with you. Everybody is intelligent in different and diverse ways. Even if you
have the same kind of intelligence as another person, the way you use your intelligences will be
unique to you and your work. The thing is we can only maximize our intelligences by always
look to new activities to engage your mind. Be a knowledge junkie.

A : I’m not so sure about that. Your brain needs exercise as well. If you stop using your
problem-solving skills, your spatial skills, your logical skills, your cognitive skills. How do you
expect your brain to stay in top shape—never mind improve?

B :  I’m afraid I agree with you. We have to think about modern conveniences that are helpful,
but when relied on too much, can hurt your skill in that domain.

A : The most important thing, you should use the best method that suits your intelligence type.

B : That’s true. As a bodily-kinaesthetic, I have to use physical objects as much as possible.

Physically touch objects as you learn about what they do. Flashcards can help me memorize
information because you can touch and move them around.

A : You’re right. Keep in mind as well that writing and drawing diagrams are physical activities,
so don't neglect these techniques.
B : Noted. What about you? What’s your best method as an intrapersonal?

A : I align my learning goals with my personal interests and beliefs. It motivates me and increase
my confidence. I have to be in a quiet place when I’m working or just want time alone.

B : You have to try field trips out in nature, so you will enjoy the opportunity to explore on your
own and will gather questions and observations about the world around you.

A : Sure, I’ll try it someday.

B : Cool.
