It is with total confidence that I write this letter of recommendation for Sarah Cooper for an art teacher
position in your district. Sarah has been an art teacher for ten years at Towslee Elementary and during
the three years that I’ve had the pleasure of working with her, I have been impressed with her skill and
heart for teaching.

I am not alone in my respect for Sarah as evident by her colleagues selecting her as Towslee’s Teacher
of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year. Sarah’s passion for art and ensuring that all of her students
have a positive, successful experience with art shines through in so many ways. Her instruction is
engaging and she provides such clear, constructive feedback to her students in a way that motivates
them. Her genuine care for her students and their success is felt in her daily interactions with her
students. After doing formal evaluations or quick walk-throughs, I leave her classroom wishing I had the
privilege to be one of her students. It’s hard not to share her excitement about the content she’s teaching
and feel inspired by her encouragement when you spend time in her classroom. I’m grateful that our
Towslee students have the opportunity to learn from her.

Sarah prioritizes sharing art beyond the classroom. She has hosted a variety of extracurricular
enrichment activities. She has worked collaboratively with our encore teachers to showcase the arts in
annual arts shows and performances in addition to contributing to district-wide events that have engaged
students and our Brunswick community. During online learning, she provided excellent learning
opportunities and art experiences in the most difficult of circumstances. As a district our feedback from
parents regarding planning for remote instruction was to ensure that our students continued to have
experiences with our encore teachers. With my experiences with Sarah, this came as no surprise to me.

Above all else, Sarah understands the key to our work as educators as she prioritizes developing positive
relationships with students as a fundamental part of her instruction. Her calm demeanor, genuine care for
her students along with her open-mind and willingness to grow professionally makes her a leader by
example in regards to valuing the social-emotional needs of our students.
