Graphical Information Introduction

School of Chemical Engineering

• The Minesweeper is a low-cost wind-powered mine detonator with
the appearance of a giant, spiky-armed tumbleweed
• Mine Sweeper is a safety device used to detect and defuse the mines
that are present underground which are harmful for the armed forces
that may face them on borders
• minesweeping the goal is to create a safe path for troops and supply
Base material
• The base material of the sweeper are bamboo legs, shock adsorbent
bruss and centre metal core.

Telescope joint
How to join bamboo and what are the best bamboo joints?

School of Chemical Engineering

• In this joint type two bamboo parts with varying diameters are
join together in which one bamboo has inner diameter almost
equal to outer diameter of another bamboo as shown in figure.
• In this Joint a bamboo with 50 mm outer diameter is fitted
inside the bamboo with inner diameter of 50 mm.
• This entire assembly is drilled on joint and a locking key is
passed throughout so there must be stability in structure.
• In this Joint there are only vertical members and no horizontal
member is present.

Objectives/ Goals
• Main objective of minesweeper is to create the safe path for armed
forces in areas of violation
• It is done for the benefit of civilians, not only for the military, and the
aim is to reduce risks for deminers and civilians as much as possible
• To cover maximum area by searching for mines
• It should be biodegradable and high resistant to higher impacts
• To produce the product in cheapest value possible

Pros and Cons
• Bamboo is easy to cut, handle, repair, reposition and maintain,
without the need for sophisticated tools or equipment.
• Bamboo is non-polluting and does not have crusts or parts that can be
considered waste.
• The natural surface of the bamboo is smooth, clean, with an attractive
color which does not require painting, scraping or polishing. • It can
be used in combination with other types of construction materials, like
reinforcing materials for foundations.
• Bamboo is its poor resistance to fungi and bacteria.
• Material Has A Very Short Life.
School of Chemical Engineering
• If incomplete dry bamboo is used in joinery this will result in losing
and weak joints after a few weeks.
• If a bamboo column or beams do not have a node at both ends, the
bamboo may crush.
• Bamboo which is less than 3 years of age should not be used.
• There is a lack of design guidance, the structural calculations and
construction permits are difficult to obtain.
• Without any protective treatment, most bamboo species
Cost estimation
1. Cost of raw materials:
School of Chemical Engineering
Bamboo = total bamboo used x rates per ft
= (1 m × 40)×(25 Rs./m)
=Rs. 1000
Tungsten ball( hollow) = Rs. 950
ABS+Rubber = Rs. 400
Total Material cost = 1000+950+400
= Rs 2350
2. Labour cost:

Rates: Skilled labour = Rs 500/day

School of Chemical Engineering

Semi-skilled labour = Rs 420/day
Unskilled labour = Rs 380 /day

Total Labour cost = 750+630+1080

= Rs 2460
Conclusion
In the subject of civil prototyping we learn basic about the civil
structure and truss structure. We were able to use method of joint after
the session

School of Chemical Engineering

• In this prototype we learn about fabrication, analysis and testing of the
prototype
• Bamboo is more economical material than the steel
• Learnt how to perform various tests like compression test, joint test
and tension test are performed.
• Design of Minesweeper is successfully made using software like
Autodesk Fusion 360
