What Is Republic Act No 9003
Also known as Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, effective since 26 January 2001.
It establishes the legal basis for the Philippines' comprehensive, systemic, and ecological solid waste
management policy, which seeks to protect public health and the environment. It stresses the
importance of bringing in mechanisms and rewards and introduces penalties for actions that violate any
of its provisions.
aims to promote individual responsibility towards proper segregation, collection, transport, storage,
treatment, and disposal of solid wastes through the formulation and adoption of the best environmental
practices in ecological waste management excluding incineration.
3R’s
REDUCE
Reducing waste is the most dominant feature of the waste hierarchy. Reduce waste generation from the
start by bringing your own shopping bags, using products that can be used repeatedly, and so on
REUSE
Despite efforts to reduce the amount of waste generated, consumers and businesses still create
substantial waste. Reuse materials that can and are safe to be reused, one of them is by making
handicrafts or through the upcycling process
RECYCLE
When waste is eventually discarded, segregating items for recycling from other waste is important.
