Video Broadcasting Grant Proposal

Purpose:
This proposal is designed to help schools plan for the integration of new video
broadcasting equipment into the media program to produce a school
news/announcement program through Safari Montage. The school broadcast is a
perfect platform for showcasing student projects and should include
presentations created by students throughout the school. This plan should be a
collaborative effort between the school's administration, the media specialist, and
other faculty and staff.

Student Benefit:
Broadcasting is an activity that builds essential 21st Century skills in our students.
In working with the tools and resources required for broadcasting, students
strengthen communication skills through team collaboration, heighten creativity
through brainstorming, and develop problem solving and time management skills
through organizing and creating the show. Participation in broadcasting benefits
students in many ways and provides experience and skills needed to transition
more easily into the workplace.

Grant Requirements:
Submission of this proposal requires those involved to:

• attend mandatory training sessions on the utilization of the equipment and

the management of a school news broadcast;
• commit to producing a news broadcast at their school.
• Collaborate with other peers on video broadcasting and best practices.

Equipment Options:
Depending on the goals and needs of the school, applicants may apply to receive
one of the two systems shown below. System 1 is very straightforward and easy
to use. System 2 is more advanced and will require more time and commitment
to learn to use the equipment and software provided. Both systems will require
the use of a school computer (not provided) to take advantage of some of the
features of the system.

4. Please describe your experience with video broadcasting. Include participation in video broadcasting

I personally have no video broadcasting experience, as our cart at Hodge has not been
operational since my tenure here began.

5. How do you plan to manage and utilize the equipment provided in this grant?

Ultimately the goal is to have the equipment managed by students, with staff supervising. Our
brand new building has a space in the media center specifically designed for video broadcasting;
this is where the equipment will be housed. Students will submit applications to join the video
broadcast team, and those who are deemed responsible will be trained on how to take care of the
equipment by staff, who will supervise to ensure the equipment is being managed properly.

We plan to utilize the equipment in a variety of ways. We currently transmit our morning
announcements over the intercom; with this system, we would be able to produce a year-round
project with a morning video broadcast followed by an on-going and ever-changing digital signage
production promoting more student and teacher inclusion. The technology on this cart would
provide the opportunity to strengthen the bonds between students and teachers through teacher
and student interviews, and allow us to celebrate our successes by broadcasting instances of
students' accomplishments.
6. How will students be involved in utilizing these resources?

Our goal is to make students the primary visionaries for Hodge's video broadcast,
making it a cross-curricular activity by involving them in every role, from imagining and
preparing the broadcasts to helping maintain and manage the equipment. While staff will
also be involved 100% of the time in a supervisory function, we see video broadcasts as
an opportunity to teach students to explore their creativity and learn crucial technology
skills that will open doors for them in the future. Students will be charged with creating
scripts, researching facts, creating graphics, managing and utilizing equipment, and
organizing the information and broadcast content. These are skills that are necessary
for our students in life, not only as 21st century learners.

7. The following signatures indicate our commitment to implementing the plans described above and
utilizing the equipment provided to promote student learning at our school. (Space for 4 signatures is
provided, but all are not required)
