FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Spring/Summer • April/August 2011

Dear friends of the Prosserman JCC

Shalom and welcome to the Spring/Summer edition of our program guide.

2011 got off to a tremendous start with wonderful additions to our program
repertoire. It began with the creation of an outdoor ice rink, a culinary
tour of Israel, a new free shuttle service for seniors, an action packed Tu-
B’Shvat and an amazing Family Day. The plan is to keep the momentum
going with many new and exciting programs, workshops, classes and
events for members of all ages.

As we step into spring, we recognize the importance of continuing with

our market research as our members are a vital piece of our future and
growth. We appreciate the feedback that we have received to date, and
while there will be more formal opportunities, please consider this your
invitation to continue to express your own vision of the Prosserman JCC.
Our doors are always open.

As a JCC professional for over 10 years, I am intimately familiar with

the impact that a Jewish Community Centre can have on the lives of its
members. As the new Executive Director, I am honoured to be at the
helm of the Prosserman JCC as we lead the way to a vibrant future in
Toronto - A future that supports Jewish culture, community, and educa-
tion while encouraging and enabling Jews of all ages and backgrounds to
engage in the joys of Jewish living.

We believe that this is your home away from home and it’s a delight to
keep seeing the familiar faces as well as meeting the new ones. I invite you
to browse through this guide and I look forward to seeing you around the
Prosserman JCC.

FILM MUSIC: THE NEGLECTED ART
One of the most misunderstood and least
appreciated aspects of moviemaking is the film
score. Even though music has been an integral part
of movies since the silent era, many believe that the
best film score is the kind that you don’t notice. In
this course, instructor Kevin Courrier addresses
that perception by tracing the long and fascinating
history of movie music, while also examining the
works of many of the art form’s great and varied
composers. From the piano player in the theatre pit
