Component B is a light-dependent resistor. More light could be shone on it to
make lamp A grow brightly. If more light is shone, its shared p.d will be less,
following a lower resistance. This means that the other resistor will have a
greater shared p.d, which causes lamp A to grow more brightly.

turns the voltage level opposite
The thermistor detects if temperature in the oven is below the set value and as it
cools, its resistance increases. This causes a higher shared p.d. at the
thermistor and a low p.d. at variable resistor R. At P, the p.d. is low and it goes
through a NOT gate, which alters the low voltage level high. Now, the voltage is
high enough to switch the transistor on, alerting the warning lamp.
Changing the resistance of R would change the p.d. of itself and the
thermistor.

As the temperature varies from 20 degree celsius to 100 degree celsius, the p.d.
of B decreases.
