WHY PPFP IS IMPORTANT

• Reduces maternal mortality and morbidity


• Reduces infant mortality and morbidity
• Prevents risk or unwanted pregnancies
• Prevents unintended pregnancies among younger and older women, who have the
greatest risk of maternal and infant deaths
• Reduces the incidence of abortion, especially unsafe abortion
• Allows women to space their pregnancies
• Reduces the number of cases of vertical transmission of HIV and AIDS from mother to
child.
• Globally, nearly 65% of postpartum women have an unmet need for
family planning

• PPFP saves lives, PPFP:


• 30% maternal deaths
• 10% infant deaths
• 21% child deaths, ages 1- 4
Marie Stopes Bangladesh participated actively to achieve the PPFP
targets in collaboration with government & other organization for
the long time.

CHALLENGES

• Inconsistent Supplies
• Information gap when counselling for PPFP
• Lack of targeted counselling
• Lack of interest about long term / Permanent method
• Trained staff migration
• Management of complications or side effects – most neglected area
MITIGATION

• Strengthen PPFP counselling during ANC visit with attendant ( Husband & Decision-making family
member )
• Strengthen counselling during admission of client for delivery
• Disseminated adequate & proper information among target people
• Counselling during EPI session
• Involving TBA/SBA in PPFP counselling-Targeted counselling of women (behaviour change still
depends on peer or other family influencer or community influencer).
• Training of service providers on PPIUD , Implanon & Implanon NXT , TL & NSV
