Booker T.

Washington and Barack Obama

Booker Taliaferro Washington is a black educational leader. He was born on April 5th,

1856, in Franklin County, Virginia, and died on November 14th, 1915. Booker T. Washington's

nickname is the 'The Great Accommodator,' or many people also call him the 'trailblazer,' he

got his nickname because of the effort and ambitions he fought for to build a school for

everyone, especially the slaves to get an equal education in America. Booker T. Washington

established the Tuskegee Institute in 1881 to teach African-Americans economics and

agriculture. Tuskegee is one of the very few schools that admit the black race back then,

Tuskegee Institute (now known as the Tuskegee University), located in Tuskegee, Alabama.

Washington is the principal, and the first teacher in the institute, job training and the quality of

learning is what made the institute became famous because it showed students the path to

black self-reliance and success in America. Washington also well known as the powerful

speaker, author, and he advised President Theodore Roosevelt and President William Taft on

race relations.
