CARDIAC OVERVIEW I

Cardiac Dysthymia Treatments

Voiceover

TREATMENTS-

• Catheter Ablation

• Synchronized Cardioversion

• Defibrillators

• Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillators (ICDs)

• Pacemakers

Catheter Ablation- PUT IN TO atrium. Ablation is where they use electrical energy to destroy parts of
hearts primarily the atrium that are causing irregular rhythm . this is Gold standards for type of
dysrhythmias. They cause clots.

• Procedure uses electrical energy to “burn” or destroy areas in the heart that are causing rapid
and irregular heartbeats.

• Used to treat abnormal rhythms, in the upper chambers of the heart (used for atrial fibrillation,
atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia).

Synchronized Cardioversion-

• Can be an elective or emergent procedure that uses less current than what is used for
defibrillation.

• Examples of heart rhythm that would be good candidates for cardioversion:

• Symptomatic ventricular tachycardia (VT) with a pulse

• Atrial dysthymias (AF or AFL) with rapid ventricular responses (RVR)

• Supraventricular (SVT) rhythms

• Priority: Maintain client’s airway and ECG monitoring.
