A Perfect Fit
Whether you have a Hydra or a Prime, LUX Engine modules
are engineered to seamlessly integrate with your light
fixture’s electronics and optics. A CNC-machined profile
ensures a consistent fit.
Unmatched Customization
Whether you require a light that grows macroalgae exceptionally well or a
light that colors your coral and accelerates growth, there’s a LUX Engine
for you. The best part is you don’t have to buy a new light fixture!

Install Instructions
Instructions (Prime)
Required Tools
T9 and T10 Screwdriver, Hairdryer, Canned Air (optional).
Disconnect light from power supply and remove unit from any mounts.
1
Place light, lens facing upwards, on a clean, level surface and follow
2 AquaIllumination’s tutorial to open the light. Also watch LUX Engine Install
Video (Use your phone’s camera to read the QR codes)
Use a hair dryer on medium-high heat at its lowest fan speed and pass it
over the sticker several times to soften the glue for easy removal. You
don’t want to bend the sticker, so please be gentle when peeling it.
3 With the lens removed, carefully inspect it for dust. Use canned air
to clean any dust you find. A cotton swab can help clean hard to
reach places. Trapped dust can cause the lens to melt. So take care
to ensure no foreign material is between the lens and the LEDs.
With the old puck removed, wipe the plate that was underneath it and
4 the underside of LUX Engine with the included alcohol pad and dry with
lint-free cloth or cotton swabs. You don’t want any dust between LUX
Engine and the metal plate. Be careful to NOT touch the LEDs with your
fingers as fingerprints can damage the primary optics. Put the old puck
that shipped with your light in a safe place.
Secure LUX Engine with the T9 screws. Screw them in, being careful to
5 firmly tighten but not over-torque the screws. Replace the connectors,
lens, and use the T10 screws to fasten the bottom frame.
Should you need further help, please refer to the videos.
6 Enjoy your new light! Place screws here to keep them safe!

Clean the heatsink and the LUX Engine pucks and secure them with the

torque the screws. Carefully align the connector pins with the sockets and
gently connect everything.
Replace the lenses. Each LED should fit precisely under each optic.
6 Double check the connections. Every pin should be seated in a socket.
Finally, replace the bottom frame and fasten them with the T15 screws.
FAQs
Frequently asked Questions
- Will these pucks work in devices apart from Prime HDs? (16s, Hydra 32/64s, etc.)
The board design of the Primes and Hydras are unique. As a result, the connections to the
LEDs and mounting hole placements may vary between the aforementioned models.
Presently, LUX Engines distributed are designed to work in Prime HDs, non-HD Primes,
Hydra 26 HDs, Hydra 26 non-HDs, Hydra 52HDs, and Hydra 52s.
LUX Engines use colors that never have been shipped with Primes and Hydras. As a
result, the firmware on the devices and the user interface of the app have not been
updated to account for the changes LUX Engines bring. To make it easier to control, a
color mapping card will be provided with your install kit.
If you’re not sure what preset to set, you can adjust all the sliders except the one that
controls the white channel to max and adjust the whites to your visual preference. Doing
so maximizes the performance of your light.
- Why the beta? What’s the difference between the beta and production models?
The beta program provides invaluable insights that simulations alone cannot deliver. While
simulations are informative, they simply do not tell the entire story. This is where YOU get
to help! As far as the differences go, the beta models are expected to be extremely similar
to the final production models.
Please check with your postal service if mail is still being allowed/is reliable.
Due to the current global situation, priority will go to inviting beta testers in the United
States.
Once slots entirely fill up for the beta program and all orders are processed, all the pucks
will be manufactured together in batches to minimize manufacturing variances and will be
shipped together. This could take up to 3 days after the last order is finalized.
You’ll be posted on manufacturing updates so you’ll know exactly where things stand.
Yes, provided you are certain that only the LEDs on the board are damaged and that the
drivers and the rest of the electronics are ok. It is important to note, that for best results,
your light must be fully functional prior to puck installation.
In the beta program, the units are built personally for every invited member. As a result, all
sales are final. However, you have full support in case of any issues that may arise for one
calendar year from install.
Please reach out immediately. I will do my best to either: A. Replace the puck, or B.
Request the puck be returned for further R&D evaluation, or C. Rework the module, or D. a
combination of these.
While there’s always a risk, if you carefully follow the instructions and handle the
electronics gently, there shouldn’t be any chance of this happening. In fact, the pucks are
highly modular, so you can swap them out with ease! Just make sure to not touch the
discrete LEDs themselves and ensure no dust or salt gets in-between the pucks, the
metal plate and the lens. However, in the unlikely event of a light getting damaged, the
liability shall not exceed the cost of the upgrade kit.
