This document describes simple heating and cooling processes where air temperature changes at a constant rate by circulating through ducts containing heating or cooling coils. The mass flow rates of air and water remain constant, as does the rate of heat transfer. The heat added or removed is calculated based on the change in enthalpy of the air from its inlet to outlet state.

(ω=constant) • In simple heating (or simple cooling), the air in the systems is heated (or cooled) by circulating it through a duct that contains the tubing for heating coils (or cooling coils). • During simple heating (or simple cooling), the T is changing at constant ω, but ϕ decreases (or increases). • For dry air mass: 𝑚ሶ 𝑎1 = 𝑚ሶ 𝑎2 = 𝑚ሶ 𝑎 • For water mass: 𝜔1 = 𝜔2 • For energy: 𝑄ሶ = 𝑚ሶ 𝑎 ℎ2 − ℎ1 𝑞 = ℎ2 − ℎ1
