Procedure/Stages + Timing

Teaching procedure
How to play:
Give students some time to finish their sentences.
Divide the class into 2 teams (A-B). For each round, 1
member from team A will read out loud his/her
sentences while the other team will try to guess

which sentence is a lie. The team will be given 1
point for a right guess. There will be 3 rounds in
total. The team that have the highest score will be
the winner.
4 minutes 1. Lead-in

Ask students about the usage of Relative clause.
We use relative clause to provide more
information about a person/thing Or to
combine 2 sentences that mention the same
person/thing. Answer the question.
Ask students to list out some relative pronouns.
Show students 2 sentences and ask them to combine
them using relative clause:
She introduced me to a man. She is going to marry
that man.
She introduced me to the man whom she is going to
marry.
Or: She introduced me to the man whom she is going List out all relative pronouns.
to marry.
Introduce the new lesson:
Relative clause: Omission of Relative pronouns. Combine the sentences.
10 minutes 2. Presenting
Show the sentence again:

marry.
Ask students to analyze the relative clause (which Answer the question.

When the relative pronoun acts as the object of an
adjective clause, they can be omitted.
Give another example:
The police who stopped my car was very polite.
Ask students to analyze the relative clause (which Answer the question.

adjective clause, they cannot be omitted.
Give 2 more examples: Take notes.

holiday with. (Can be omitted)

the Nobel prize. (Cannot be omitted)
NOTES: We cannot omit the relative pronoun in
non-defining relative clause.
My distant cousin, whom I haven’t seen for years,
