GROUP PROJECT ASSIGNMENT

Assignment objective: Choose a bioethics case study to prepare a powerpoint presentation on and
present in front of your class. This assignment asks you to examine a current ethical controversy case
study related to a medical topic and analyze it and explain it.

Groups: You must be in a group of 5-7 people only.

Presentation: Your powerpoint presentation should be around 20-25 slides and should be 15 minutes.
You must insert citations and references in your presentation or I will not grade your presentation, and
will have points deducted.

Grade: 40%

Due date: May 15, 2021

Content and outline for Bioethics Case Study presentation:

 Define and identify the ethical dilemma


 Clarify the facts – what’s known and what’s not?
 Who are all the people involved in the case study
 Medical indications (Diagnosis, prognosis, treatments or medication history, other clinical
options, etc)
 Patient/Family preferences (what does patient or family want)
 Hospital/healthcare provider or physician preference (what does the other side want)
 Advance directives, goals of care, etc.
 Quality of life of patient
 Evaluation of patients’ situation
 Contextual factors
 Social contexts, family situation, cultural/religious values, financial situation, etc. (think
about these factors)
 Analyze and balance the values involved
 Explain principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice according to your case
 Explain what are the benefits and risks of the case study
 Make a recommendation

 “Do you agree?”


 “What do others think?”
 “Would you have done the same?”
 “What else do we need to think about?
 “As the administrator of the hospital or doctor in the case, what do you do”
 “What could the hospital and/or any physician have done differently?”
 “Was this a preventable mistake?”
