Sample calculation

Piston Acceleration = (Piston Velocity, v+1 – Piston Velocity, v) / 10 s

= (16 mm/s – 8 mm/s) /10 s
= 0.8 mm/s2

ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION
Chart 1 indicates Displacement against Crank Angle. The line for this graph increases from 0° to
180° and then decreases from 180° to 360°. Chart 2 indicates the Velocity against Crank Angle. This
Chart 2 shows that velocity increases from 0° to 90° and decreases until 180°. Subsequently, it decreases
back until 270° and increases back until 360°.
The simple harmonic motion is showing that force increases when the displacement increases.
We got to know that maximum velocity on once angle because acceleration is basically obtained from
velocity which is d2x/dt2. The values occurs at 90° and 270°. If the form of ratio is increased, the
acceleration also increases drastically and it is clearly seen in Chart 3. The maximum values for
acceleration obtained are 0.8, which are at 360°. Both the velocity and acceleration will occur at the same
degrees. Chart 3 is to show Acceleration against Crank Angle. The chart shows that velocity and
acceleration decreases and increases equally. Based on what we obtained on the chart is maximum
velocity and maximum acceleration occurs at the same angle.

CONCLUSION
From the experiment we can conclude that by performing this experiment of slider crank chain we have
managed to learn the characteristics of the mechanism. From the experiment we found that both the
position and the displacement have played significant part for the Slider Crank Chain experiment which
also are relative to the velocity and the acceleration. This experiment teaches us the basic mechanism of
internal combustion engine. All the objective of the experiment has achieved.
