Content Standard:
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of sequences..
Performance Standard:
The learner is able to formulate and solve problems involving sequences in different disciplines through appropriate
and accurate representations.
Learning Targets:
At the end of the lesson, the learners can:
1. generate and describe patterns using symbols and mathematical expressions;
2. find the next few terms and the nth term of the given sequence;
3. define and describe an arithmetic sequence; and
4. enumerate the next few terms and the nth term of an arithmetic sequence.
Transfer Goals:
Learners will be able to apply the key concepts of sequences in finding solutions and making decisions for certain real-
life problems.
Enduring Understanding:
Learners will understand that there are realistic problem situations that can be solved using the concepts of sequences.
Essential Question:
How can patterns and sequences lead someone to educated guesses?

FIRM-UP
After they answer their previous activities, they are able to read and understand the key concepts about patterns and
sequences, number sequences, finite and infinite sequences, their definition and its illustrative examples
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES
Example 1.a: Find the next two terms of the given sequence 5,8,11,14,…
Example 1.b: Find the next three terms of the given sequence 15, 7,-1,-9,…
Example 1.c: Find the next four terms of the given sequence 7, 14, 28, 56, …
Example 1.d: Find the next three terms of the given sequence 24, -12, 6, -3, …

Example 3: Find the 7th term and the 10th term of the sequence when the nth term is given by: an =
(n + 1)(n + 2)
Example 4: What is the 9th term of the sequence when the nth term is given by:
n(n+1)
a. an = n2 + 2n – 1 b. an =

PRACTICE EXERCISES 1 (Formative)
After they learned some illustrative examples regarding to generate patterns and sequences, they will be able to answer
some exercises to develop and enhance their skills in solving.
A. Find the next two terms of each sequence (4 items)
B. List all the indicated terms of each finite sequence (2 items)
C. Find the indicated term in each of the following sequences (3 items)

Guide Questions:
1. Is there a pattern in the number of matchsticks? If there is, describe it.
2. How is each term (number of matchsticks) found?
3. What is the difference between any two consecutive terms?
After they answer their previous activities, they are able to read and understand the key concepts about arithmetic
sequences, their definition, the process on finding the next few terms and the nth term and its illustrative examples.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES
Example 1: Find the next five terms of the given arithmetic sequence: 12, 15, 18, 21, …
