Instructional Method and Pedagogy:

Lectures (Online mode / offline mode) will be conducted with the aid of multi-media
projector, black board, hand-outs, posting online material, video lectures, etc.
Assignments and Exercise will be given to the students for each unit and will be evaluated
at regular interval.
Regular Tutorials will be conducted.

The aim of this course is to study optical fiber technology and its application to optical
communication links and systems

The basic questions we will seek to answer in the first few lectures include:
1. What are the advantages of using photonics for communications?
2. What is optical fiber?
3. What is an optical communications link? (Basic architecture)
4. How does light propagate in an optical fiber?

Please note:
• Some of the contents of the lecture notes are not available in the book
• The opposite is of course also very true!
• Some sections of the book are outside the scope of the course
• The section corresponding to a slide has been indicated (when possible)
