1d, |here with submit the detailed report with
With reference to the Govt. Memo 1st
required information as follows.
Rallapadu Reservoir is a Medium Irrigation project, constructed across River Manneru in
the year 1958, near Rallapadu village in LingasamudramMandal of Prakasam District to irrigate
an ayacut of 11000 acres only in Prakasam and Nellore districts. The gross capacity of the
reservoir is 1.10 TMC and the dead storage is 0.029TMC. Initially, there was no allocation for
drinking water or industrial usage in Rallapadu Project.Later, as per the demand for drinking
water, rural water supply schemes are set up on the Rallapadu project by the RWS&S
Department to cater the drinking needs of 106 habitations in Kandukur Revenue division and at
present the demand for drinking water on Rallapadu Project is 264MCft per year vide reference
3" cited. As the irrigated ayacut under the project is increased, the Government have localized
the 16000 acres under this project in the year 1997. Further proposals to provide irrigation
facilities to anextent of 2500 acres under left main canal are under process. As the demand for
drinking and irrigation requirements under this project has been increased thereservoir needs
to be filled twice a year to cater the project requirements.
Due to erratic rainfall in the catchment area, inflows in to Rallapadu project are
dwindled and reservoir reached its full capacity only thrice in the last 10 years (ie., in 2010,
oa
Scanned with CamScanner201182015). Due to prevaling drought conditions the ayacutryoths are forced to mig
cities/towns to eke out their livel
supplement 1.50 TMC of water to the Rallapadu projectthrough GKN canal from Somasila
This allocation of 1.50 TMC Is meant for supplementation of
under Rallapadu
Jihood. In view of the above situation, it was proposed to
Reservoir(78 TMC Capacity),
existing 16000 Acres of Ayacut and 2500 Acres of to be developed ayacut
project, and also stabilisation of ayacut under Anicut systems ofManneru River on downstream
of Rallapadu project and to feed Minor Irrigation tanks in downstream sideMandals, The GkN
canal improvements works are almost completed and water is supplementing to Rallapadu
reservoir since December 2018. As the designed discharge ofGKN canal at head is only 750 C/s
and it’s length (up to Rallapadu Project) is more than 110 KMs, the losses in canal are high and
hence meagre quantity of water is being received to Rallapadu project which is not sufficient to
meet the timely requirements of Project. More over the new projects like somasila high level
canal in Nellore district are once completed, burden/dependency on GKN canal of Somasila
reservoir will become more and allocated water to Rallapadu reservoir may not reach as
desired.
In view of the above circumstances, and based on the representation of Hon‘ble MLA,
Kandukur, the Govt. have instructed to examine another supplementation proposal to
Rallapadu project with Veligonda project water (43.53TMC) through Eastern Main Canal vide
CMP No.1809/Addl.Secy/2020 dt:05/10/2020. Accordingly, a proposal for drawing 1.166 T.M.C.
cof water fromVeligonda Project is under process.
In view of the above, it is technically feasible to supply 3 MLD of water to
Ramayapatnam Port from Rallapadu Project. There is no specific allocated/reserved water for
industrial use under this project as mentioned in the Govt.memo 2™ cited. Hence, this
additional quantity of water can be met only by obtaining further allocation either from
Somasila Reservoir through the existing Supplementation Scheme or from Veligonda Project
through the proposed supplementation scheme.
This is submitted for favour of information and taking further necessary action.
Yours faithfully
executive En?
R.P.R Division, Kandukur.
