GENERAL RULE (CONTINUES)
SMART COMPETITION
- Competition rules are subject to change. Any change of rules
and clarification will be announced to all the participants on the
technical meeting or before the competition day.
- All kind of communication will be delivered in English.

- OGIP 2021 International Smart Competition consist of 2 type of
- The competition stages are:

GENERAL RULES
- Smart Competition OGIP 2021 will be held virtually through
ZOOM meeting software.
- The competition will be open for undergraduate students from
any invited university that related to Petroleum Industry.
- Each university can send its representative maximum of 2 (two)
teams. Each team consist of 3 players and shall designate the
team captain.
- The competition will comprise of total 18 teams. Any changes
will be notified via o cial account.
- The first 18 (eighteen) teams that have completed the payment
process will be automatically invited to OGIP 2021 International
Smart Competition. There will be notification through OGIP
2021 website and email for each selected delegate teams.
COMPETITION FORMAT
stages: elimination stage and grand final stage. For the
elimination stage, every team will play in di erent breakout
room and for the grand final stage will use main room only.
First Elimination Stage
At this stage there are 2 groups (A and B), each group will
consist of 9 teams (if there are 18 teams), teams from the
same university will be automatically on di erent group and
each group will have the same 15 questions (The questions
for group A will be di erent with the questions for group B).
The respective schedule and the tournament group for the
competition day will be drawn during the technical meeting.
For the first elimination stage, 4 teams with the highest score
on each group will proceed to the next stage. So, the total
teams that will proceed to the second elimination stage are 8
teams.
Second Elimination Stage
The mechanism for this stage will be the same with the first
elimination stage (there will be no group system again). The
order of turn for this stage will be drawn again immediately
after the first elimination stage. Teams from the same
university will be automatically play at the same time (in
di erent breakout room) and the question for each round will
be the same (15 questions). The teams with 3 highest score
will proceed to the grand final stage.

 COMPETITION FORMAT (CONTINUE)
Grand Final Stage
The top 3 teams will play in the same room (main room). In
the grand final stage will consist of 2 sessions, the first
session is quick firing answer session, in which online buzzer
system is needed (buzz in live). The toss-up question and
bonus question will be provided for this session. The next
session is number game session, for further detail rules and
concept of the game will be informed soon before the
competition day.
EQUIPMENT
- Participants must prepare electronic devices (PC is recommended)
with ZOOM application that has been downloaded, because the
competition will be held via ZOOM.
- Supporting equipment such as paper, pencil or pen, and calculator
are allowed to be used during calculation questions.
- It is the responsibility of the participants to prepare a good internet
connection and comfortable condition during the competition.
- At the grand final stage, there will be used buzzin.live (online buzzer
system), so the participants need to open the website, then enter the
code and type the name following by team name (example:
GASPROM-ALI).
TOURNAMENT OFFICIALS
- Judges
There will be 3 judges. All judges' decisions concerning compliance
with the rules and awarding of point will be final.
- Question Reader(s)
Each round will have moderator(s) who will guide during the
competition. The moderator(s) will read the question, determine the
team who have the right to answer the question, consult judges as
needed to determine the correctness of answers, award and deduct
points, and otherwise enforce the rules of competition.

TOURNAMENT OFFICIALS (CONTINUE)
- Operator
Each round will have one operator as the host of the competition room
and set the time during the competition (time keeper).
- Scorekeeper
Each round will have one scorekeeper who will arrange and keep the
o cial score during the competition.
TIME
- The participants must be at the main room at least 15 minutes before
the match begin.
- The match will begin when the participants are ready
- Tardiness of more than 5 minutes than the scheduled match time may
result in a forfeit unless the lateness is the fault of the tournament or
the tournament o cials.
- After the moderator finish reading the question, each team has 5
seconds to answer a toss-up question, 10 seconds to answer a
compulsory question, 15 seconds to answer a bonus question, and 20
seconds for calculation question.

QUESTION
- There are 4 type of question: Compulsory Question (for elimination
stages), Bonus Question (for all stages), Toss Up Question (only for Grand
Final Stage), Number Game Question (only for Grand Final Stage).
COMPULSORY QUESTION
In the elimination stage there will be 15 questions, in which the
last 5 questions are bonus questions.
Every member of the team may answer the question. Before
answering, the member should say “final answer” then
followed by giving the final answer.
Each team has 10 seconds to answer compulsory question. The
10 seconds starts when the moderator is finished reading the
question. If the moderator is asked to repeat the question, the
time will still be counting down. After 10 seconds, the
moderator will prompt the team for an answer. Once
prompted, the team captain (or the team member he/she
designates) must immediately begin answering or forfeit the
opportunity to answer the question.
Discussion between player in a team before answering a
question is allowed. The time will keep going, as the discussion
being progressed.
Each compulsory question is worth up to 5 points. Each
incorrect or incomplete answer will be reduced by 1 point.

BONUS QUESTION
Bonus question for elimination stage
Each team will get bonus questions for 5 last questions from
15 total questions that will be given at the elimination stage.
On bonus questions, the team captain will give the answer
or explicitly choose another team member to give the
answer. Any other player's answer will not be accepted.
A team has 15 seconds to answer a bonus question. The 15
seconds starts when the moderator is finished reading the
question. If the moderator is asked to repeat the question,
the time will still be counting down. After 15 seconds, the
moderator will prompt the team for an answer. Once
prompted, the team captain (or the team member he/she
designates) must immediately begin answering or forfeit
the opportunity to answer the question.

Each bonus question is worth up to 10 points. There will be no
deduction point for incorrect answer to bonus question.
Bonus question for elimination stage
Team will get a bonus question if the toss-up question is
correctly answer two times in a row. And for the other teams
are not allowed to answer the question.

or explicitly choose another team member to give the
answer. Any other player's answer will not be accepted.

seconds starts when the moderator is finished reading the
question. If the moderator is asked to repeat the question,

 QUESTION (CONTINUE)

Each bonus question is worth up to 10 points. There will
be no deduction point for incorrect answer to bonus
question.
Toss-Up Question
A player may “buzz in” (using online buzzer) to answer a
toss-up question at any point after moderator has
begun reading the question.
Once a player has buzzed in, the tournament o cial will
verbally recognize the player by team and player name.
if a player repeatedly responds before being
recognized, tournament o cials deserve the right to
invalidate that player's response, turning the question
over to the other team, if applicable.
If a player buzzes in before the moderator has finished
reading, the moderator will stop at that point. If the
answer given is incorrect, the moderator will continue
reading the entire question for the other team.
Player have 5 seconds to buzz in after the moderator has
finished reading the question. If the player answers
incorrectly, the other team will then have 5 additional
seconds to buzz in. Some question may permit more
time, which will be noted specifically by the question.
An answer to a toss-up question must begin within 5
seconds after the player has been recognized. An
answer started after the tournament o cial has said
“TIME” will be treated as no answer, and the other team
will have opportunity to buzz in. Ties between the player
and the timekeeper are decided in favor the player.
Discussion between player in a team before answering
toss-up question is not allowed, so there is no discussion
time for toss-up question.

QUESTION (CONTINUE)
Decisions as to whether players have exceeded the allotted
time to buzz in or to answer may be rendered only by the
tournament o cial and are not contestable.
Each correct answer to a toss-up question is worth 10 points.
Each incorrect or incomplete answer will be reduced by 5
points.
Number Game Question
The detail for rules and concept of the game will be informed
on the technical meeting.
Questions are intended to test the participants' knowledge
of petroleum engineering (reservoir, drilling, production),
petroleum geology, geophysics. Question may include
history, trivia, current events, technical questions,
calculations, and problem solving related to petroleum
industry.
CORRECT ANSWER
- The moderator will accept only the first final answer given by a player.
- If a question requires multiple answers, a player may provide the
response in any order (unless otherwise specified), without a pause of
more than 3 seconds between response. Answering incompletely (2
out of 3 answer available), the judges have a right to decide the point
will be given to a team (e.g. 3, 5, or 7 points) or will be known as wrong
answer.
- Common acronyms and abbreviations are often acceptable (e.g.,
chemical symbols, state postal abbreviations, organizational
acronym), unless they appear in the question, in which the question
reader may prompt the player to expand the acronym or
abbreviation.
- If a question asks to identify an answer from a list, the player must
name the exact answer.
