Sustainability and BREEAM.
SUSTAINABILITY – Lytag® Lightweight Aggregate products are secondary aggregates made from
Pulverised Fuel Ash (PFA), a by-product from coal fired power stations which makes them truly
sustainable. They are very light, having a bulk density of between 700 and 800 kg/m3, thus enabling
sustainable, lightweight construction.

BREEAM – Using Lytag® Lightweight Aggregate products enables the client and design team to gain
“credits”, in a variety of different areas within the overall construction of the building. In addition, the
improved insulation properties of Lytag® Lightweight Aggregate over standard aggregates helps to
gain further credits for the improved thermal performance of the overall building.

Calculate Your Savings.

If you are designing a concrete or steel structure, the use of Lytag® Lightweight Aggregate in
lightweight concrete can provide huge cost savings. The table below shows the volume reductions
which can be made in concrete and steel in addition to reductions in deadloads by using Lytag®
Lightweight Aggregate in varying building structures. The calculations do not include the extra savings
that you may achieve by reducing or eliminating piling costs. The addition of Lytag® Lightweight Screed
can further reduce the deadloads to gain additional savings.

Calculations have been based on the following building geometry – the 6 storey design is 6 number 6m bays + 6 number 7.5m bays per floor
(i.e. 12 bays per floor), with a storey height of 4m. The 30 storey design is 6 x 6m bays (i.e. 36 bays per floor), with a storey height of 4m.
