Objective(s): Students will be able to describe the Sacraments of Healing, which are
Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick.

How do you know if you’ve met the objectives?: Students will repeat back to me the “I
can” statement at the end of the lesson, as well as complete the activity.

Engage (3 minutes)
Check out this resource to get an understanding of what you will learn today.

Begin in prayer. Ask for any intentions and prayers for others. Say an
Our Father.

Explore

Opening questions:
Think about someone you need to forgive.
Think about someone you know who is sick.
What can you do to show them your love and care?

Review what we talked about yesterday.

Explain (20 minutes)


Today we are going to be learning about the next two sacraments:
Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. These are the Sacraments of
Healing.
Read pages 176-177. Ask simple comprehension questions throughout
reading. Connect to past sacraments that we talked about.

Apply (1-2 assignments; 30 minutes)


Here you will apply your knowledge and practice the skill. Make sure you follow
the directions for each assignment.

Students will complete the next two sections in their foldable activity.
Guide the activity by using the sacrament document, which should be
on the white board for students to see.
Review the definitions for form and matter within sacraments.
Begin with Reconciliation definition. Then discuss the form and the
matter for that sacrament.
Move on to Anointing of the Sick definition. Then discuss the form
and the matter.

Review what we learned today. Have students repeat the “I can”


statement at the end of the lesson.

If students are not done with foldable, have them, complete it during
ketchup time or Friday morning using the main example.

Students can share their foldable with their families when we have
finished learning all the sacraments.
