1. Donned Sterile Gown:


a. Opened sterile gown and
glove package on clean,
dry, flat surface.

b. Performed surgical
hand antisepsis, dried
hand thoroughly.
c. Picked up gown
grasping inside surface
of gown and collar.
d. Lifted folded gown
upwards, stepped away
from table
e. Located neckband,
grasped inside front of
gown just below neckband.
f. Allowed gown to unfold
with inside of gown
towards body, did not
touch outside of gown or
allow gown to touch the
floor.
g. Slipped both arms into
armholes with hands at
shoulder level, did not
allow hands to move
through cuff opening, had
circulating nurse pull
gown over shoulders.

2. Applied gloves using
closed-glove method:
a. Kept hand covered by
gown cuffs and sleeves,
opened sterile glove
package.
b. Grasped folded cuff of
gloves for dominant hand
with nondominant hand
c. Extended dominant
forearm palm up, placed
palm of glove against
d. Grasped back of glove
cuff with nondominant
hand, turned glove cuff
over end of dominant hand
and gown cuff.
e. Grasped top of glove
and sleeve with
nondominant hand,
extended fingers into
glove, ensured glove cuff
covered gown cuff.
f. Gloved nondominant
hand in the same manner,
ensured fingers were
fully extended into both
gloves.

3. Donned a wraparound gown:


a. Grasped sterile front
flap or tab with gloved
hands, untied.

b. Passed sterile to a
member of the team, kept
gown tie in hand, turned
as circulating nurse
stood still.
c. Turned to left
covering back with
extended gown flap,
retrieved sterile tie
from team member, secured

both ties.
Evaluation
1. Monitored patient
postoperatively for signs
of surgical site
infection.
2. Identified unexpected
outcomes.
