Products (to be read in conjunction with Product data sheets)

Xypex concentrate

Xypex Patch’n Plug General:

Xypex Gamma cure This Method Statement details the products and procedures to treat cracks or faulty
concrete construction joints.

surface PreParation:

Form a rout along the entire length of the crack or construction joint to approximately
25mm wide by 25mm to 37mm deep (it is advised that the larger the volume of the flow
the deeper the rout depth to aid in ease of repair).

If the joint is a floor wall joint, ensure the rout intersects both the floor and the wall sections
of the concrete.

The rout should be preferably dovetail, square or as close to a “U” shape as practical. A
“V” shaped rout is not acceptable.

Thoroughly clean the rout of all loose material and saturate the rout area. Xypex requires
a Saturated Substrate and Damp surface (SSD). Concrete surfaces must be thoroughly
saturated with clean water prior to the application. Remove excess surface water before
the application. If concrete surface dries out before application, it must be re-wetted.

aPPlication:

No water flows present

1. Mix Xypex Concentrate, five (5) parts powder to two (2) parts clean water into a
slurry and brush apply to the base of the rout, at a coverage rate of approximately 0.8
kg/m². The coating must be uniformly applied and approximately 1.25mm thick.

2. Allow the Xypex Concentrate slurry to reach initial set, mix Xypex Concentrate, six
(6) parts powder to one (1) part clean water, as a dry pac and compress into the rout
with a hammer and block or pneumatic packing device to an approximate depth of
15mm.

3. Remove any residual product from exposed sides of rout.

4. Apply a fine mist spray of water to seal the surface of the dry pac.

5. Mix Xypex Patch’n Plug, three and a half (3.5) parts powder to one (1) part clean
water into a stiff putty and apply to the rout to return to profile. Allow a minimum of one

Products (to be read in conjunction with Product data sheets)

Xypex concentrate

Xypex Megamix II general:

This method statement details the products and procedures to carry out concrete repairs
where the concrete is spalling or is honeycombed.

Note: If water flows are present within the defect, it will be necessary to stop the flows.
Refer to the Method Statement for Sealing of Cracks and Faulty Construction Joints.

surface PreParation:

Saw cut the perimeter of the repair area to a minimum depth of 10mm.

Remove all loose and delaminating material until a sound substrate is exposed. Removal of
deteriorated concrete is generally achieved by mechanical scabbling or hydro-demolition.
If mechanical scabbling is undertaken, the exposed area must be made free of all dirt
and loose material. Xypex requires a Saturated Substrate and Damp surface (SSD).
Concrete surfaces must be thoroughly saturated with clean water prior to the application.
Remove excess surface water before the application. If concrete surface dries out before
application, it must be re-wetted.

All corroded steel must be exposed, generally the substrate is removed to a minimum of
20mm beyond the corroded reinforcement (this requirement may be varied by engineering
directives). Once exposed the reinforcement must be cleaned of rust and scale.

Where necessary, replace the corroded reinforcement bar (specification governing the
reinforcement replacement requirements are the responsibility of the project engineer).

aPPlication:

1. Saturate the concrete with clean water so as to achieve a SSD surface.

2. Mix Xypex Concentrate, five (5) parts powder to two (2) parts clean water into a
slurry and apply a brush coat of the material on to the prepared reinforcement steel.

3. Mix Xypex Megamix II with clean water. Add approximately 90% of the water to a
mixer and then add the Xypex Megamix II powder. Mix briefly and add additional
water as required to a maximum of 2.8 litres per 20 kg bucket.

4. Apply a scrub coat of this mixed material to the prepared, saturated concrete surface.
While the scrub coat is still green, apply Xypex Megamix II to the repair areas.

5. Xypex Megamix II should be applied in layers not greater than 50mm in thickness.
Allow each layer to reach initial set before applying subsequent layers, the surface
should be “scratched” to allow for increased bond of subsequent layers.

Xypex Patch’n Plug general:

This method statement details the products and procedures for the sealing of new
penetrations and treatment of existing penetrations.

surface PreParation:

where a core hole is required to install the penetration

After the core hole is completed thoroughly rinse the area to remove all dust, dirt and loose
material. The surface must be saturated with clean water. Xypex requires a Saturated
Substrate and Damp surface (SSD). Concrete surfaces must be thoroughly saturated with
clean water prior to the application. Remove excess surface water before the application.
If concrete surface dries out before application, it must be re-wetted.

where an existing penetration is leaking

Create a rout of approximately 25 to 37mm deep and approximately 25mm wide around
the perimeter of the penetration. The rout should be preferably square or as close to a “U”
shape as practical. A “V” shaped rout is not acceptable.

Thoroughly rinse the area to remove all dust, dirt and loose material. The surface must
be saturated with clean water. Xypex requires a Saturated Substrate and Damp surface
(SSD).
