Forty patients underwent tandem colonoscopies.
The first exam was always a HD WLE exam
followed by a randomly assigned second HD
WLE or HD WLE plus Tone Enhancement.
Histology prediction was also performed and
compared with histopathology results. There
was no difference in adenoma detection rate
in the first HD WLE exam among groups. The
second colonoscopy detected significantly more
adenomas in the HD WLE plus TE group (n=60)
compared to the HD WLE (n=18). Additional
adenomas detected with HD WLE plus TE were
small (mean size 2.6640.97mm) and were more
often flat. The authors concluded that HD WLE
plus TE allowed for significantly better detection
of flat lesions and to predict histopathology of
the identified lesions with a high sensitivity and
specificity.
