EXT – Garden – Day

We open on a sunny day, a detective stands alone in the garden

of a neighbourhood house, he stands there thinking. Soon
another detective, dressed in black with a striking red tie
and long coat arrives. He walks up to him.

Miller
Anything found out from the mother?

Adley
How it goes is middle of the night young toby was taken
by a stranger. They woke up to hear him screaming, they
entered the room and found the kidnapper with a gun to the
boy's head. What remains of the incident was in that room.

Miller
Let's go check it out then

INT – Bedroom – Day

They both walk into the bedroom whilst discussing their

evidence so far.

Adley
Did you find anything else about the vehicle?

Miller
Nope. Nothing. No reports of suspicious activity.

Adley
Fingerprints in the room? Or on the window?
Miller
Nope. Nothing.

Adley
Damn it. This man was quiet and quick. The only chance we have
here is in this room. There’s no way he could’ve left nothing
untouched.

Miller
So, let’s look mate. There’s nothing else to go off.

Adley
Okay well, where do we start then?

Miller thinks for a moment and then walks over to the bed and
window. He stands there for a moment, Adley joining him.

Miller
Came through the window. Left through the window with the
boy, possibly unconscious. Okay so what about the roof?

They look at each other and we cut to them outside on the roof
looking around, Adley crouching down examining at the
guttering.

Adley
Guttering must’ve been good use for a ladder, something
to latch onto effectively.

Miller
That also means who ever took them must’ve had a van.
Adley
Definitely.

Miller
But then how did they carry the ladder around so
effortlessly? Without making a noise. How did they carry young
Toby down so effortlessly?

Adley
Hmm. Maybe there were two men?

Miller
Even so what difference does that make to all of it?

Adley strokes his chin and walks over to the window again, he
stares into the room.

Adley
I got nothing.

Miller sighs and rubs his eyes in exhaustion.

Miller
I’ve got no bloody clue either.

Miller sighs and leans against the wall. They stay in silence
for a minute.

Adley
It’s odd. How come no one else knew of it?

Miller looks confused and looks at Adley.

Miller
What do you mean?

Adley hops back into the room, Miller following him.

Adley
Okay. So, it’s the middle of the night, the young boy is
kidnapped, right? Held against his will, possibly muffled.
Everyone in the street is asleep.

Miller
Yeees?

Adley
So, why I would I threaten with a gun? If it were to go off
that’d only attract witnesses, bring attention to me. Better
yet, how would I be able to carry a 14-year-old through a
window this size, with no mess, no traces of anything? Better
yet how come the mum was the only one who heard him scream?
None of the neighbours. Nobody at all. Better yet how come no
one

As he explains all this Adley rein acts his thought process by

waving his arms around and shifting around the room, Miller
following along with him.

Miller
So, you think the parents are behind all this?

Adley
Boy wasn’t kidnapped. But why?

Miller’s phone gets a notification. He checks it.

Miller
It's from the office. They have a ransom note that was sent
in. “We will return the boy to you for £500,000. Cash up front
at the Wargrave station at 2pm. One man, alone. No funny
business or the boy dies.” No signature.

Adley
The husband decides to “go to work” after his son is
kidnapped.

Adley and Miller look at themselves for a second both sharing

an agreeable look in their expressions. They stand their alone
and then in the heat of the moment they dart off.
