PROPOSED SOLUTION

This section provide the realistic solution to the problem of the Old Oregon Wood Store.
Also it explains the reasons behind the proposed solution and its justification support for the
solution. Lastly, the relevant theoretical concepts in addition to the results of this case study.

REALISTIC SOLUTION
In this case study, the Old Oregon Wood Store have a problem in constructing a table.
According to the data that they have, there is a competition between other crew members in
constructing the table. The owner has the least amount of time in manufacturing process, which
is 230 minutes as compare to other crew members which is around 275 to 315 minutes.
The problem in their process is that there will be a bottleneck identified in making their
Old Oregon Table. So if they will choose the assignment method, were in there is an assigned
person in different processes, they need to consider the time of the previous process before them.
In every business, time is very important so it is not a good idea if it they will use the assignment
method. In this case, there is a lot of waiting time, most especially in waiting to complete the
process of preparation. It is like a Domino effect in the whole Process.\
The proponents would like to introduce the realistic solution for the Old Oregon Wood
Store that would meet its goal in making a quality table, minimize the time which tends to reduce
its cost and 100% meeting its ideal target with maximum efficiency so the old Oregon table are
manufactured at the lowest average total cost. In the Table 4, shows the time of the original crew
members and the new employee i.e. (Randy) in making the table.
Table 4. Considering 5 crew member including Randy
Finishing
Stage Preparation Assembly and Back up Total time

Tom 100 60 115 0 275
George 80 80 70 0 230
Leon 110 90 90 0 290
Cathy 120 70 125 0 315
Randy 110 80 110 0 300

The proponent notice that the packaging function is severely underutilized. They suggest
to combine packaging and finishing operation to utilize packaging function. They also decided to
propose to the company not only the idea of hiring Randy but also instead of giving each a single
job or process, they decided to allow each and every one to manufacture table. Based on the
average time present in the case study, it shows that the owner i.e. George is the one who has the
fastest time in making the table. In this case where each person is made to manufacture the table
completely from start to finish, they can do 1.75 for Tom, 2.09 for George, 1.66 for Leon, 1.52
for Cathy and 1.6 for Randy, which has a total of 8.62 tables per day whereas where only 4 are
required to build the tables.
