CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

Descriptive - correlational design will be used for conducting this study. In

order to determine the computer self-efficacy of the respondents, their Computer

Literacy, and academic performance, descriptive design will be used. Correlation

will be used to determine the relationship between the Computer Literacy and

Computer Self-efficacy of the respondents.

Locale and Respondents of the Study

This study will be conducted at Norala National High School, Norala,

South Cotabato.

The respondents of the study will be the Grade Seven students of Norala

National High School for the school year 2018- 2019.

Data to be Gathered

The respondents’ computer literacy and self-efficacy will be determined

by using the computer literacy and self-efficacy instrument adopted from Jeong-

Bae Son (2008).

22
Sampling Procedure

Stratified random sampling will be used in determining the respondents for

this study. Twenty student from each of the sections in the Grade Seven classes

will be selected as the respondents. A total of 260 respondents overall.

Data Gathering Procedure

The data for this study will principally be attained from the test

questionnaires to be given to the respondents.

Self-efficacy

Respondents will be asked to answer a questionnaire. The respondents self-

efficacy was sorted as “very high” level of self-efficacy (students with scores 97-

128), “high” level of self-efficacy (students with scores 65-96), “low” level of self-

efficacy (students with scores 33-64) and “very low” level of self-efficacy

(students with scores 0-32) .

Computer Literacy

Respondents will be asked to answer a questionnaire. The respondents literacy

was categorized as “very high” computer literacy (students with scores 9-10),

“high” computer literacy (students with scores 6-8), “low” computer literacy

(students with scores 3-5) and “very low” computer literacy (students with scores

0-2) .

23
Research Instrument

The data for computer literacy will be collected using a questionnaire.

In the study, the respondents will be answering a 32-item-likert type scale

measuring different competence areas on computer using will be applied. They

would rate their computer skills where they will be tasked to put a check (√) in the

box at the appropriate spot: ‘very low’, ‘low’, ‘high’ or ‘very high’ with allocated

points 1 for the very low, 2 for low, 3 for high and 4 for very high. There will also

be an assessment test about the knowledge they have on computer and will

serve as the computer literacy test consisting of 10 items. Overall, there will be

42 items for the computer literacy to be answered by the respondents.

Statistical Analysis

The gathered data will be analyzed and interpreted using frequency count

and percentage for the computer literacy and self-efficacy. Regression analysis

will be used to determine whether there is a relationship between computer

literacy and self-efficacy.
