HD: 96Mbps
SD: 48Mbps
The standardization of H.264 defines the upper limit of the video rate. The table
below shows the upper limit of the video rate. If the video rate is set to over the upper
limit, the output stream does not meet the H.264 standard and it does not ensure the
reliable operation.
Memo The video rate defines the level in main profile and high profile at 1080I and 1080P.

11
HVE9230 User’s Guide

The available range of the "(4)VIDEO RATE" is calculated from the values of "(1)TS
RATE", the AUDIO1-8 rate and the ancillary rate.
When the value outside the available range is set, the message "VideoRate is too
High" or "VideoRate is too Low" is displayed, and changes are not reflected.

Normally set the recommended video rate or higher.

If "(4)VIDEO RATE" is below the recommended video rate, the compressed video may
be inferior to the input video.

The following table shows the lower limit of the video rate and the recommended video
rate.

The seamless mode has some limitations. Those are:

・The video ES rate is not written in the stream.
・The range that is changeable in one setting is ±20Mbps.
・When the video rate can be set to over 20Mbps, CAVLC is selected at "2-2-3 VIDEO

Memo ・When EXTERNAL is set to "2-2-2 TS Menu (2)TS CLOCK", the seamless mode
cannot be selected.
・When LOW, SUPER LOW or ULTRA LOW is set to "2-2-3 VIDEO Menu (4)LATENCY

・The level is defined by the initail video rate. Even though the video rate that is over
the upper limitation of the level is set, the level is kept.

12
HVE9230 User’s Guide

Setting “(2)VIDEO RATE MODE” to MANUAL and “(3)SEAMLESS MODE” to ENABLE

leads the encoder to the seamless mode. In the settings, the video rate is seamlessly
Memo changed by setting “(4)VIDEO RATE”.
In case that “(2)VIDEO RATE MODE” is AUTO, “(3)SEAMLESS MODE” is fixed to
DISABLE.

In case that “2-2-3 VIDEO Menu (4)LATENCY MODE” is set to ULTRA LOW, the video
Memo is encoded under UNSTUFFING CBR at “(5)RATE CTRL MODE”.

When ULTRA LOW is set to “2-2-3 VIDEO Menu (4)LATECY MODE”, "(9)EXT DELAY”
Memo can be set to only 0 frame.

When "MPEG4 HE-AAC" is set at the "(4)AUDIO1-8 Mode", the latency of encoding
audio increases when conditions fall under the following category:
Memo ・720P50, 720P59.94, 720P60, 1080P50, 1080P59.94 or 1080P60 is set to "2-2-3
VIDEO Menu (11)FORMAT".
・MEDIUM is set to "2-2-3 VIDEO Menu (4)LATENCY MODE".

In case that dolby digital pass through is set to "(4)Audio1-8 MODE'', use the dolby
Memo digital encoder whose delay is 187ms.

In case that dolby digital pass through is set to "(4)Audio1-8 MODE'', use the dolby
Memo digital encoder whose bit rate is over 128kbps.

The delay of this encoder increases by 168ms, when dolby digital pass through is set
to "(4)Audio1-8 Mode'' and either of following conditions is met:
Memo ・"2-2-3 VIDEO Menu (4)LATENCY MODE'' is LOW.
・"2-2-3 VIDEO Menu (12)M'' is either 1 or 2.

In case that dolby digital pass through is set to "(4)Audio1-8 Mode'', the settings of
Memo "(14)-(21) GAIN ADJUSTMENT'' do not take effect.

26
HVE9230 User’s Guide

In case that ENABLE is set to "(22)B39 MODE'', the available audio mode is only
Memo MPEG2 AAC-LC.

In case that "(22)-(24) B39'' is used, the following setting values are used as the bit
rates of audio1 and audio2.
・a group of MPEG2 AAC-LC 1ch (1/0)
・a group of MPEG2 AAC-LC 2ch (1+1, 2/0)
Memo ・a group of MPEG2 AAC-LC 5.1ch (4/0, 3/2/1, 6/0)

In case that the group of MPEG2 AAC-LC 5.1ch is not used, set its bit rate to 320kbps.
When MPEG2 AAC-LC 2ch is set to "(24) AUDIO2'', the bit rate of the audio2 is always
equal to that of MPEG2 AAC-LC 2ch.

In case that "(22)-(24) B39'' is used, the video rate is calculated, considering the bit
rates of audio1 and audio2 according to the following audio modes.
・a group of MPEG2 AAC-LC 1ch (1/0)
・a group of MPEG2 AAC-LC 2ch (1+1, 2/0)
Memo ・a group of MPEG2 AAC-LC 5.1ch (4/0, 3/2/1, 6/0)

In case that the audio2 is not used, the video rate is higher by setting DISABLE to "(24)
AUDIO2''.
In case that MPEG2 AAC-LC 2/0 is set to "(24)AUDIO2'', the bit rate of audio2 is that of
MPEG2 AAC-LC 2ch (1+1, 2/0).

In case that MPEG2 AAC-LC 2ch is set to "(24) AUDIO2'', the audio2 always encoded.
Memo If the audio modes required by B39 are 2S, 5.1 or 5.1+S, the audio mapping for audio2
obeys that for audio2, or else the audio mapping for audio2 obeys that for audio1.

In case that the audio is switched by "(22)-(24)B39'', the TSs without multiplexing
Memo audio PES are transmitted for about 1 second (maximum). Therefore, decoding
these TSs by an STB may make noises.

Memo "(22)-(24) B39'' does not support the audio down-mix specification.

Before changing the setting values in 2-2 CONFIG Menu, either set DISABLE to "(22)
Memo MODE'' or stop inputting SDI signal.

Memo In case that there is no group1 data in embedded audio, group2 data is not used.

27
HVE9230 User’s Guide

One of procedures for using the functions of "(22)-(24) B39'' is :

(a) Set the items in the video menu.
(b) Set MPEG2 AAC-LC 1/0 to the audio1 mode and its bit rate.
(c) Set MPEG2 AAC-LC 2/0 to the audio1 mode and its bit rate.
(d) Set MPEG2 AAC-LC 3/2/1 to the audio1 mode and its bit rate.
(e) Set MPEG2 AAC-LC 2/0 to the audio2 mode and its bit rate.
Memo (f) Set MPEG2 AAC-LC 2ch to "(24) AUDIO2''.
(g) Set ENABLE to "(22) MODE''.
※ Start the above procedures after DISABLE is set to ''(22) MODE''.
※ The above procedures are one example. Set other items according to the
operation.
※ The bit rate of MPEG2 AAC-LC 1+1 is the same as that of MPEG2 AAC-LC 2/0.

To pass streams of the external Dolby E Encoder through by using SMPTE302M, the
system should be typically set as follows.

Examples of settings to HVE9230

- CONFIG-AUDIO-INPUT9-16ch = AES/EBU
- CONFIG-AUDIO-MAPPING-MODE = MANUAL
- CONFIG-AUDIO-MAPPING-AUDIO1 = AES1:AES2:AES3:AES4
- CONFIG-AUDIO-AUDIO1-MODE = SMPTE302M 2ch
- CONFIG-AUDIO/AUDIO1-SAMPLE BIT = 16bits or 20bits
(Set the sample bit that is greater than or equal to that of the Dolby E Encoder.)
- CONFIG-AUDIO-AUDIO1/EXT DELAY = 2 frames

Examples of setting to HVD9100

The combination of available audio modes

HVE9230 has 4 processes of audio-encoding. The maximum number of the PES that one process
can encode is shown in Table 2-12.

Table 2-12 Maximum number of PES that one process can encode

AUDIO MODE Maximum number of PES

MPEG1 2PES
S302M 2PES
DolbyDPass 1PES
DolbyD 2PES
AAC 1PES

MPEG1 MPEG1 (mono, dual, stereo)

S302M SMPTE302M (2ch, 4ch, 6ch, 8ch)
DolbyDPass Dolby Digital Pass-Thru
DolbyD Dolby Digital (1/0, 2/0)
AAC MPEG-2 AAC-LC (1/0, 1/1, 2/0, 4/0, 3/2/1, 6/0)
MPEG-4 AAC-LC (2/0, 3/2/1)
MPEG-4 HE-AAC (2/0, 3/2/1)
MPEG-4 AAC-LD (2/0, 3/1, 3/2/1)
MPEG-4 AAC-ELD (2/0, 3/1, 3/2/1)

Therefore, HVE9230 can encode the maximum 8 PES when AUDIO1 to AUDIO8 are encoded by
MPEG1 or SMPTE302M. HVE9230 can encode the maximum 4 PES when they are encoded by
MPEG-2 AAC-LC, MPEG-4 AAC-LC, MPEG-4 HE-AAC, MPEG-4 AAC-LD, MPEG-4 AAC-ELD or
Dolby Digital Pass-Thru. In case of DolbyDigital1, the maximum 4 PES are available, when Dolby
Digital option is added on. The maximum numbers of the audio channels are 16ch.

In case that more than two kinds of audio modes are used, any audio mode can be assigned to one
process. There are some limitations when MPEG1, SMPTE302M or DolbyDigital is selected as the
audio mode.
>One process encodes two lines of audio by MPEG1 and SMPTE302M at the same time, but the
maximum number of audio channel are 8ch.
(Exp.) One process can encode MPEG1 + SMPTE302M 6ch. (total 8ch)
One process cannot encode MPEG1 + SMPTE302M 8ch. (total 10ch)
> One process cannot encode two lines of audio by MPEG1 and DolbyDigital at the same time.
> One process cannot encode two lines of audio by SMPTE302M and Dolby Digital at the same time.

Table 2-13 shows some of the combination of audio modes. If the combination of audio modes is
available, these audio modes can be arbitrarily mapped into from AUDIO1 to AUDIO8.
