A # 16
Title: Human reaction time
Date: March 1,2021
Aim: To measure the time it takes for an impulse to pass through the nerves to the brain and
return (reaction time)
Skill Assessed: 1. O/R/R
Materials:
Graph paper, meter stick
Procedure
1. A partner holds the meter stick at the 100cm
end.
2. The partner placed thumb and forefinger at
the zero end of the stick without the touched
of the stick. The partner should be ready to
grab the stick when the other partner drops it.
3. Your partner had chosen to drop the stick at any time while the person sitting down tried to
catch the stick before it dropped.
4. Recorded the distance from the zero end and where the person grasped the meter stick.
5. The drops were repeated 10 times. The stick was dropped when the partner caught it.
6. Graphs were made to show the progress.
7. A graph was made to show the best results for each member of the class.
Result: Graphs
Conclusion:
1. What is the shortest “reaction distance” for the entire class?
2. Did most “reaction distances” improve with practice?
3. Suppose you tried many more times; would your reaction distance keep improving?
4. What might affect a person’s reaction time?

Discussion:
1. The shortest reaction distance from the entire class is 10cm because the person
sitting down grab the meter ruler stick before it touches the ground which causes
the distance from zero to where the person thumb stops.
2. While some of the reaction distance kept increasing there was some that decreases
because of how fast the person sitting downs grabs the ruler stick. The person
catches the ruler as quickly as possible between the thumb and index finger which
sometimes allows it to improve faster.
3. If the person sitting down tried many more times the reaction distance time would
improve because strengthening that connection between your body and brain can
make a noticeable difference in your ability of reflexes.
4. A person’s reaction time can be affected if their reflexes are not strong enough to
handle it. There are many factors that could affect reaction times, which expresses
to both male and female age, physical fitness, distraction, alcohol, personality
type, and whether the stimulus is auditory or visual.

Conclusion:
The measurement of the time it took for the impulse to pass through the nerves to
the brain and return would be 10cm as the best reaction for the class because the
reaction is the lowest of all measurements and display the strong reflexes when
the meter ruler is at the process of dropping.
