Writing Learning Target
● I can write an opinion essay to persuade
the reader
“School should start later in the morning”

Who is the
audience?
What is the author's
purpose in writing this
essay?

Who is the audience?

Step 1: opening sentence that states your opinion
Step 2: try to persuade the reader by writing
reasons(3) to support your opinion

Example:

I think that people should always pick up their trash. Trash makes our
streets and sidewalks dirty. It isn’t fun to walk around because trash is
everywhere. Also, when people don’t pick up their trash, it is bad for
nature. It’s hard for plants to grow when the ground is covered with
trash. Trash can hurt animals.
People often write persuasive essays when they have strong
opinions about whether something is good or bad, or right or
wrong.

Choose one of the topics that you

wrote down yesterday

Write about it. Write your opinion
