CPP CW Treatment Observation (15.03.

2021)

 It has been observed that copper of cooling water system is out of limit (more than 15
to 20 times compared to normal value) which indicates that yellow metal corrosion
inhibitor is not working effectively. It leads to condenser tube leakage issues if copper
corrosion is not controlled immediately.

 It has been observed that calcium to magnesium ratio is less than 1 which indicates that
calcium carbonate nuclei/precipitation is in initial phase in cooling water system and it
may lead to deposition of calcium carbonate in condenser tubes at high heat flux area of
condenser.

 It has been observed that pH of cooling water system is not maintained after dosing of
required quantity of sulphuric acid. It indicates sulphuric acid is being consumed by
calcium carbonate nuclei and as a result pH is not maintained within the range in cooling
water system. Higher quantity of sulphuric acid dosing increases the sulphate ion
content in cooling water system which aids to corrosion.

 Heavy green algae is observed at Unit # 8 & 9. Presence of green algae lead to CT film
fills choking issues and also reduces the CT efficiency.

 Corrosion coupons are not installed at Phase -II and Unit # 3 &4 for monitoring of
corrosion rate.

 Dynamic deposit monitors (DDM) are not installed in all units of Phase -I & Phase -II for
scaling rate monitoring by vendor till date.

 It has been observed that Residual Azole & Zinc parameters in cooling water are not
being checked.

Sensitivity: Internal (C3)
