A BIT OF HISTORY
At the beginning of the 13th century, the Church was experiencing violent opposition from the
Albigensians, a group who taught that spiritual realities were good and everything material was
evil. This was a direct attack against the Incarnation, the Passion, and the Resurrection. They
even became violent and murdered a papal legate who had been sent to dialogue with them.
Saint Dominic Guzman was the founder of a religious order called the Order of Preachers.
Their mission was to set the world on fire with a love for Jesus through preaching on the sacred
mysteries of Christianity. Gifted with great oratorical ability and theological acumen, he hoped
to be able to win souls back to Christ rather easily. However, after several years of ardent
preaching, he realized that he was not effective and that he needed something more.
In 1208, he begged heaven to come to his aid and give him what he needed to overcome the
Albigensians. After three days of solitude in intensive prayer, fasting, and penitential acts, the
Queen of Heaven came to his assistance. “Wonder not that until now you have obtained so little
fruit by your labors; you have spent them on a barren soil, not yet watered with the dew of the
divine grace. Therefore, preach my Psalter.”
The Marian Psalter existed before Saint Dominic’s. He was chosen to be the founder and father
of a new way to pray it. The Marian Psalter was prayed as a way of honoring Mary, now it
took on apostolic and meditative dimensions as Mary revealed to Dominic mysteries that were
to be associated with it. These mysteries directly answered the errors being promoted by the
Albigensians by focusing on the Incarnation, Passion, and glorious triumph of Her divine Son.
As the first champion of the Rosary, St Dominic quickly became the most fruitful preacher of
his age. The spiritual sword of the rosary had proven itself to be very powerful. (The History and

Saint Catherine of Bologna is great propagator of the thousand Hail Marys. On Christmas Eve
in 1445, the saint spent the night praying and meditating on the Mystery of the Incarnation of
the Son of God. She was in the midst of reciting the Hail Mary a thousand times in honor of
our Virgin Mother when Mary appeared to her and placed the infant Jesus in her arms. In order
to mark this event, each year the Sisters of the Poor Clare monastery of Corpus Domini
continue the practice of the thousand Hail Marys on Christmas Eve. This devotion quickly
spread throughout the Church.
The story of the Rosary had another decisive moment when the Saint John Paul II choose to
celebrate his Silver Anniversary with the Rosary mission, adding the five Luminous Mysteries
(October 2002). Saint John Paul II confided that “the Rosary is my favorite prayer. Beautiful
prayer! Beautiful in its simplicity and depth.”

MEDITATING THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES
1º- THE BAPTISM OF CHRIST IN THE JORDAN (Matthew 3, 13-17)
We offer this rose and ask forgiveness for all the people who don't live their Baptism, those
who don't believe that Jesus is the son of God and do not accept the existence of the Holy
Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We ask God the Father, through Jesus Christ, to shed the
Gifts of the Holy Spirit on all mankind, transform hearts and renew the face of the Earth.

increase and strengthen in us the spirit of solidarity, friendship and love, saying: "Jesus, I trust

We offer this rose and ask forgiveness for the times we took too long to make a Sacramental
Confession, keeping our soul from being reborn to God; the times we didn't help our brothers
out of a wrong life to live in the light of Christ. We ask the Lord to free us of all the errors and
biases that keep us away from the Life of grace and dwell in his Kingdom of Light.

in our heart the faith and trust in the Word of Your Son.
