DESIGN BRIEF

INTRODUCTION

Public aquariums offer a simultaneous opportunity of entertainment and learning. Unlike

museums and art galleries these public buildings are lively and non static in nature. The

dynamic display scene is usually larger than the human scale and one can easily feel lost in

it. It attracts the attention of people of all ages.

Your assignment is to design a public aquarium building that can provide an opportunity

to:

1. Educate people about marine life.

2. Relax and enjoy leisure time.

3. Learn and share research related to marine life.

Your design should present an opportunity to connect people by means of a central space,

that includes cafeteria/s, auditorium, and a few retail spaces (like souvenir shops) etc.
SPACE REQUIREMENTS

Total 35,500

There are two available sites for this assignment. Based on merits and demerits for each of
the sites, you have to choose any one site. Space requirements will remain the same for
both sites. However the circulation space and landscape is not included in the space
requirements and it may vary based on your design.

BUDGETS AND CONSTRUCTION COST

Construction Costs for the space above are as follows:

Site A
Site A is the abandoned aquarium building with playland and funland area.

This site measures around 17,285 Sq Yds. You have to provide parking space for about 50-
60 cars.

Site B
Site B is the empty space in front of the sea. Presenting an opportunity to integrate your

design directly with the sea itself.

This site measures around 11,710 Sq Yds. For 50-60 car’s parking spaces you can include

20’-0” wide vacant beach space across the street facing the sea.
