What is popular culture?

- According to oxford bibliographies, popular culture is a unique set of practices, beliefs,


and objects representing a social system with specific purposes. It comprises media
objects, entertainment and recreation, fashion and trends, and linguistic traditions, among
other things. It is also usually associated with either mass culture or folk culture and
distinguished from high culture and different institutional cultures (political culture,
educational culture, legal culture, etc.)

The Importance of Studying Philippine popular culture:

1. It enables us to understand the underlying reason why we practice or believe it deeply.


2. Studying popular culture gives us an accessible medium to explore philosophical and
moral questions and society's functioning on a smaller scale (e.g., fandom, trends,
consumption). 
3. It is also an excellent way to learn the good and bad sides of our culture since I think
there are some beliefs in our country that I did not want to accept.
4. To know our Philippine heritage. Philippine pop culture is reflected in our history and
legacy.
5. It enables us to understand our self-identity because the culture is like a mirror that
reflects how we express beliefs, thoughts, and imagination.
6. It is important because the culture is our lifestyle, our way of life. It incorporates our
qualities, convictions, traditions, dialects and customs.
7. It enables us to improved learning and valuable skills for the future. We can apply good
tradition in our culture in facing our future, just like being a resilient Filipino. 
8. It also helps build communities together. It brings people together like cultural activities
such as festivals, fairs, or groups that create social solidarity and union, promote social
inclusion, community empowerment, capacity-building, and enhancing confidence, pride,
and understanding.
9. By studying Philippine popular culture, we could develop a sense of belonging, cognitive
growth, and the ability to empathize with each other. In that way, we can understand each
other by sharing the various cultures we believe in and practice.
10. And lastly, it is essential since we belong in a different community and set of beliefs.

 Filipinos are very resilient
- Filipinos always manage to rise above the challenge even in times of calamities
and catastrophe, they are known to be strong, and Instead of wallowing, they
manage to pick themselves up and smile.

 Filipinos love to sing.


- Filipino are known as great famous singers. That is why karaoke has become so
prevalent. Filipinos spend some quality time with their families or friends singing
or belting out new and old songs as part of their recreation.

 Filipinos have the longest Christmas celebrations—ever.


- In the Philippines, as early as August, you can hear Christmas songs and jingles
being played in the malls or restaurants. The mood becomes festive, with many
people shopping and in good spirits. Christmas celebrations last until around the
first or second week of January.

- It pertains to the practice of coming up with the sad lines out of the mundane. It is
popular in this era that is drawn from bitterness and heartbreaks experience.

- In this era, People are fond of watching teleseryes that sometimes portray reality,
