I. LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of one hour learning experiences, learners are expected to:

1. Identify the ways of conserving soil fertility.

2. Discuss enthusiastically the different ways of conserving soil fertility.

3. Show the ways of conserving soil fertility through poster making.

II. LEARNING CONTENTS

A. Topic: Methods of Conserving Soil Fertility

B. Materials: Laptop, LCD projector, video, manila paper, pentel pen, colored pen

D.Values Integration : Develop a sense of awareness on the activities that can preserve the fertility of
soil.

III. LEARNING PROCEDURES

TEACHING POINTS TEACHER ACTIVITY LEARNERS ACTIVITY

A. DAILY ROUTINE

1. PRAYER Before we begin , let us pray first.

Who will lead the prayer? (The student responsible will lead
the prayer)

2. GREETINGS Good afternoon Class! -Good afternoon Ma'am Sara,

Good afternoon visitors!

3. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT Before you take your seat, kindly (The student will pick up the trash

floor and arrange the chairs
properly.

4. CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE Is there anybody absent? -None Ma'am. Everybody is

present.
5. REVIEW OF THE PAST LESSON Before we proceed with our
lesson, let me ask who among
you still remember our previous
lesson?
(The teacher will pick the
students who raised their hands
otherwise she will call names.) -Ma'am our lesson last time was
about the methods of
Good! It is important to choose applyingfertilizer .
the right method of applying
fertilizer. Nutrients to be used by
the crop must be placed in a
manner that they can be utilized
efficiently.
What else? -Ma'am we studied the methods
of testing soil fertility.
Right! Soil fertility has a direct
impact on crops growth and
yield. If we know the nutrient
contents and deficiency of our
soil we would be able to
determine the right amount of
nutrients we have to supply.
-Ma'am we also discussed how
Very Good! nutrients are loss in the soil.

You learned well from our

previous lesson. I congratulate
the class! Give yourselves a one
big clap.

(The students will do the clap.)

B. ENGAGE Before we proceed to our lesson,

for today, let us play first. Do you
know the game four pictures and
one word? -Yes Mam

I will show you three sets of

FOUR PICTURES AND ONE WORD pictures. Guess the word
corresponding to the given
pictures. (The students will look at the first
set of pictures.)

F UE N R TKI M LI ZTI Y Very good class! Now combining
the three words, what is our
lesson for today? -Mam Conserve Soil Fertility

Right our lesson for today is

Conserving Soil Fertility. Kindly
read the objectives that we need
to accomplish today. - Identify the ways of
conserving soil fertility.
2.Discuss enthusiastically the
different ways of conserving
soil fertility.
3.Show the ways of conserving
soil fertility through poster
making.
Before we proceed, kindly group
yourselves into five.
(The teacher will show the
instruction and the rubrics on the
LCD.) -Yes Mam
Is the instruction clear?
(Student will form 5 groups)
C. EXPLORE
Ok, now watch the video.
(Students will watch the video)
You may now start with your
group work. Time starts now.
(Students will start their
groupwork)

D. EXPLAIN
What are the processes to which -Group 1
trees improve soil fertility? Plant trees and Maintain Soil pH
Planting trees is important in soil
conservation because it s roots
hold on to the soil thus landslide
is prevented especially during
rainy season.
Good.
How does the soil pH affect -Soil pH is important for
fertility of the soil? understanding the nutrients
available to the plant.

Ok good! -Group 2
Build terraces and Watering the
Soil
Terraces slow down the surface
run-off of water thus preventing
soil erosion .It also trap and hold
water which allowed for the
cultivation of water-intensive
crops like rice

Where can you see this practice -Rice terraces in Benguet.

here in our country?

Yes. How about watering the -Mam watering the soil can
plant? prevent soil erosion caused by
the wind.

Very good group 2.

-Group 3
How does it helps in conserving Mulching and No-till Farming
soil fertility? Mulch is a type of material that is
spread or laid over the surface of
the soil as a covering. it is used to
retain moisture in the soil,
suppress weeds, keep the soil
cool and make the garden bed
look more attractive.

What are the materials used in -Crop residues, hay, straw, barks
mulching? and leaves

Good. -No-till farming conserve the

fertility of top soil, prevents
compaction of the soil and
prevents soil erosion.

Good job group 3.

-Group 4
Crop rotation and Contour
Farming
Crop pathogens tend to build up
in the soil if same crops are
planted repeatedly because some
insect pests are host
specific.Continuous cultivation of
the same crop also leads to
imbalance in the fertility of the
soil but through this method it is
improve by alternating deep-
rooted and shallow-rooted crops.
How does it improve soil
fertility? Contour plowing helps in slowing
the water run-off and prevents
soil from being washed away thus
reducing soil erosion.
Well done group 4.
Why is it recommended that we
plant native crops? Goup 5
Grow indigenous crops and
Promote helpful organisms
Native crops are equipped to live
with the local climate and soil
types because they have been
adapted to the environment.
They have developed their own
natural defenses against many
pests and diseases thus requiring
less pesticide use.
Right. Can you give examples of
indigenous crops here in our
locality? Lanzones, rambutan, kadyos, upo,
labanos, talong, patola, pako and
malunggay
Correct.
Promoting helpful organisms in
the sol is beneficial because they
help in retaining water in the soil,
compete, inhibit and consume
diseases, decompose plant and
other living organisms, form soil
aggregates that improve water
infiltration, root penetration and
water-holding capacity.
