SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CELEBRATION OF


HOLY WEEK AND PASCHAL TRIDUUM 202
17 March 202

INTRODUCTIO

With the current development of the pandemic in the Philippines,


particularly in Quezon City, the Local Government has released series of
guidelines to address the surge of Covid-19 cases. In support to the effort of
the local government, the Diocese of Cubao is issuing this Supplemental
Instructions for the celebration of this year’s Holy Week and the Paschal
Triduum. We have released the rst set of instructions last March 2, 2021. It
is our hope that these instructions will further enable the parishes to adapt
to the current situation of the pandemic while keeping the faith alive. It is
also our hope that the faithful may bene t spiritually from the sound
celebration of the Paschal Feasts as they take caution for their health and
safety.

PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD’S PASSIO


AND BLESSING OF PALM

1. In the Diocese of Cubao, the statio for the Commemoration of the


Lord’s Entry into Jerusalem (Blessing of Palms) will not be done, so
as not to allow the people to congregate outside the church.
2. Rather, parishes will use the Second Form: The Solemn Entrance in a
modi ed way (see Instructions, March 2, 2021). The sequence of the rst
part of the celebration is as follows: Entrance Procession,

Commemoration of the Lord’s Entrance into Jerusalem (Blessing of
Palms), and Collect.
3. The faithful who will participate, physically and online, may have their
palm branches (or of any kind of leaves) blessed through the scriptural
reading and the prayer of blessing. The sprinkling of Holy Water may
be ommitted.

THE ALTAR OF REPOS

1. The Altar of Repose is optional.


2. If the parish decides not to have one, the Blessed Sacrament will remain
in the tabernacle. The parish priest may also bring the Blessed
Sacrament to a procession on board a truck around the parish
jurisdiction.
3. If the parish decides to have an Altar of Repose, the Communal
Adoration will only be allowed for one (1) hour, after which the
Blessed Sacrament is transferred to the Sacristy Tabernacle or to a
separate place prepared for the its keeping.

VISITA IGLESI

1. In accordance with the most recent instructions from the Quezon City
Mayor’s Of ce, the Bishop of Cubao suspends the practice of the Visita
Iglesia this 2021
2. Churches must be closed one (1) hour before the start of the curfew
hours declared by the local government.

SALUBON

1. The traditional Salubong or Encuentro is suspended this year.


2. We recommend the following as alternatives
a. Before the First Mass on Easter Sunday, the image of the Risen Lord
is prepared in front of the sanctuary, or in any prominent place in the

church. The image of the Blessed Virgin Mary is taken in a procession and
is brought to the front.
b. Before the First Mass on Easter Sunday, both images of the Risen
Christ and the Veiled Blessed Virgin Mary are prepared in a designated
place. The image of Mary is unveiled.
c. After the mass, or at an appropriate time, the image of the Risen
Christ may be taken to a motorcade.

PROCESSIONS AND MOTORCADE

1. Processions in public, understood as a group of people moving on foot


in an orderly fashion as part of a ceremony, are not allowed during the
pandemic.
2. Processions of statues, images and of the Blessed Sacrament on-board
a vehicle, accompanied by other vehicles, may be done provided that
no people will follow on foot.
3. During these processions, only a maximum of 3 vehicles will be
allowed; each vehicle must only have a maximum of 3 persons on-
board
4. Persons onboard the vehicles must wear face masks and face shields.
They must strictly observe physical distancing
5. Permission must be explicitly granted by the Barangay for mobile with
more than 3 vehicles.
6. The assistance of the Barangay Police (BPSO) may be requested during
motorcades
7. Processions with vehicles must not provide opportunities for people to
congregate in public. Physical distancing must always be observed.

OTHER LENTEN CUSTOM

1. THE PABASA (Pasyong Mahal) - The Pabasa or Pasyong Mahal may not
be done in public. People may participate in the Pabasa through the live-
streaming of the parishes.

2. DAAN NG KRUS - The Stations of the Cross done in a procession on


foot is not allowed during the pandemic.
3. THE SENAKULO - The Senakulo or the reenactment/dramatization of
the Passion and death of our Lord in public is not allowed during the
pandemic.

CONCLUSIO

These supplemental instructions and the earlier instructions for the


celebration of Holy Week and Paschal Triduum have been presented to the
Local Government of Quezon City. We are sending a copy of these
instructions to the City Mayor’s Of ce. We strongly recommend that
parishes coordinate with their respective Barangay Councils for all the
activities and celebrations pertinent to the observance of the Lenten and
Easter Seasons.
