is an American designer and artist who is known for her work

age of 21 while still an undergraduate at Yale University when her
design was chosen in a national competition for the Vietnam

is a Japanese architect. She is known for designs with


clean modernist elements such as slick, clean, and shiny surfaces
made of glass, marble, and metals. She also uses squares and

windows allow natural light to enter a space and create a fluid
transition between interior and exterior. It is this connection of
two spaces from which she draws her inspiration.In 2010, she was

NORMA MERRICK SKLAREK

was a pioneering African-American architect. Sklarek was the third


black woman to be licensed as an architect in the United States.
She was the first woman to become a licensed architect in the
states of New York (1954) and later the first woman to be licensed
in the state of California (1962).She remained the only licensed
black woman in California until 1980. Author Anna Lewis calls her
"The Rosa Parks of Architecture".

ZAHA HADID

was an Iraqi-British architect. She was the first woman to receive


the Pritzker Architecture Prize, in 2004. She received the UK's most
prestigious architectural award, the Stirling Prize, in 2010 and
2011. In 2012, she was made a Dame by Elizabeth II for services to
architecture, and in 2015 she became the first and only woman to
be awarded the Royal Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of
British Architects.
