2011 DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL

APPLICATION DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2011 (Early Bird Special: March 21, 2011)

Designed to showcase the work of emerging and established choreographers and dance companies,
the 11th Annual DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL, seeks submissions. Festival dates are Friday through
Sunday, September 23-25, with an OPENING NIGHT GALA Benefit on Thursday, September 22,
2011. The dance festival will be held at the WHITE WAVE John Ryan Theater located at 25 Jay Street
(at the DUMBO waterfront) in Brooklyn, with additional outdoor Site Specific performances
throughout Pier 1 (see separate application), and an outdoor family-friendly performance at Brooklyn
Bridge Park. The festival concludes with a spectacular GRAND FINALE Performance at Fulton Ferry
Landing, featuring 7 outstanding companies. If you wish your work to be selected for this highly-
selective event, please make a note on your application (includes additional application fee).

Over the years, DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL has become very competitive. Please prepare a thorough
and impeccable application for which we can share with our panel. No handwritten applications will
be accepted.

In case of rain, outdoor performances will relocate to the main stage.
 APPLICATION GUIDELINES

HOW TO APPLY:

Please send your completed application form, supporting materials, and application fee to WHITE WAVE. The
Application Deadline is on April 1, 2011 (Early Bird Special: March 21, 2011).

1. Application (Can be downloaded at www.whitewavedance.com or appears at the end of this letter)

2. DVD Work Sample

Please submit a recent performance-quality DVD of the work you propose to show.
 Please note which chapter(s) you wish us to view. If you want us to view a specific work excerpt,
please note the times. If the choreographer is performing in the work, please identify (i.e. color of costume
or second from left, etc.)
 If you do not have a recording of the work you propose to show, submit a performance-quality
DVD of another work and note on the application form that the videotaped piece is not the proposed work.
 Do not submit promotional tapes/montages of many works.
 Make sure your tape is labeled with your company name.
 Please note, we will NOT accept an online link via youtube or other site for your submission.

3. Choreographer’s resume and/or company profile

Please include one page for each.

4. A self-addressed stamped envelope if you wish your materials be returned to you (Include proper postage)

5. Application fee
 Early Bird Special: $50.00 per work (postmarked by March 21)
 Regular Application fee: $60.00 per work (postmarked by April 1)
 Regular + Grand Finale Application fee: $100 per work (postmarked by April 1)
All checks or money orders payable to WHITE WAVE.
We do not accept credit cards except for International applicants.

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES:
 Artists must be available for all dates of the festival (September 23-25, 2011)
 Each choreographer/company may submit up to two works for consideration (each work requires
separate completed application forms, cued videotapes, and application fees).
 Hand-delivered applications must be at WHITE WAVE (entrance on John Street) no later than 5pm;
mailed applications must be postmarked by the deadline date.
NOTE: Emailed or faxed applications are not acceptable nor are late applications.
 Length: Group pieces must be 10 minutes or less (including set-up and strike).
Solos must be 7 minutes or less (including set-up and strike). NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
 Due to the festival format, production needs must be minimal.
 All applications will be reviewed by a panel of impartial adjudicators. If your work is selected, you will be
notified by e-mail by May 23rd, 2011.
