I. CAREER AWARENESS

A. Elementary

1. Student will distinguish between work and play.


2. Student will identify different types of workers.
3. Student will identify different products made by workers and describe
where the products are made.
4. Student will identify community workers who provide services and
describe the services of each.

B. Middle School

1. Student will investigate and determine the reasons why people work.

5. Student will identify ways in which different workers are dependent on
each other.

C. High School

III. JOB PROCUREMENT

A. Middle School

1. Student will become aware of classified advertisements as a means for


identifying job possibilities.
2. Student will maintain job performance acceptable to the supervisor.
3. Student will identify methods for dealing with adjustment problems on
work sites.
4. Student will become familiar with information required on job
applications.
5. Student will identify personal traits considered important for an
employee.
6. Student will identify reasons why a person may fail to be employed.

B. High School

1. Student will identify and demonstrate the steps involved in searching for
a job.
2. Student will locate available jobs using the classified section of the
newspaper.
3. Student will identify resources available through the Texas Workforce
Commission.
4. Student will collect and maintain data necessary to complete a job
application.
5. Student will become familiar with appropriate interviewing behaviors.

B. Middle School

4. Student will identify the components of a standard recipe.
5. Student will identify sanitary procedures for food preparation and
service.

C. High School

1. Student will demonstrate personal sanitation for food service employees.


2. Student will demonstrate washing, sanitizing, and drying dishes by hand.
3. Student will demonstrate washing glassware, tableware, and flatware in a
commercial dishwashing machine.
4. Student will demonstrate washing, sanitizing, and drying pots and pans,
and other utensils by hand.

B. Middle School

C. High School

1. Student will use a shovel with a round point.


2. Student wil use a push broom to clean an outside area.
3. Student will use a grass rake after mowing.
4. Student will maintain and/or start a power mower.
5. Student will mow lawns of different shapes.
6. Student will mow tall grass.
7. Student will transplant bushes.

9. Student will maintain and use a weed-eater.

VIII. WORK SKILLS: HOUSEKEEPING

A. Elementary

5. Student will clean up clutter by putting it in the appropriate place.

B. Middle School

1. Student will become familiar with safety practices and most common
causes of accidents.

supplies.
3. Student will use a cart with cleaning supplies
4. Student will remove smudges from smooth surfaces.
5. Student will dust different types of surfaces.
6. Student will clean and adjust venetian blinds and window shades.

C. High School

3. Student will wax the floor using liquid wax.

6. Student will identify basic custodial tools found in a school and give the
name and function of each.

B. Middle School

1. Student will line a wastebasket or garbage can.


2. Student will clean a mirror.
3. Student will clean a window.
4. Student will clean a drinking fountain.
5. Student will sweep the floor.

C. High School

1. Student will change a light bulb and/or fluorescent tube.


2. Student will use a squeegee to clean large windows.
3. Student will vacuum the floor.
4. Student will sweep, using a push broom.
5. Student will use a string mop.
6. Student will wax the floor, using liquid wax.
7. Student will strip old wax from floors.
8. Student will buff smooth-surfaced floors.
9. Student will follow a routine to clean the public areas of a building.
10. Student will follow a routine to clean an office.
11. Student will identify reasons for daily cleaning of restrooms, bathrooms,
and shower rooms.
12. Student will clean the bathtub, shower and sink.

X. WORK SKILLS: OFFICE/CLERICAL

A. Elementary

office.

3. Student will load a stapler.
4. Student will use a stapler.
5. Student will remove staples.
6. Student will fasten papers with paper clips.
7. Student will use rubber bands to group items together.
8. Student will punch holes in paper.
9. Student will sharpen a pencil.
10. Student will empty a pencil sharpener.
11. Student will fold an 8 ½” x 11” sheet of paper to be inserted into an
envelope.
12. Student will insert items into envelopes.
