Roller Assembly
The roller consists of a fixed roller shaft, outer shaft cover, a rotating hub, 2 sets of
bearings, inner cover disc, bearing sealings, roller tire clamped onto the hub,
protective shaft cover, seal air sleeve and oil sump (app. 190 Liter per roller)

Rocker Arm

• Connects hydraulic spring

assembly with roller assembly
• Transfers the hydraulic force to Upper Rocker Arm
the grinding roller
• Consists out of 3 parts:
– Shaft / Axle connecting the
– Lower Rocker Arm and the
– Upper Rocker Arm
• The Roller Assembly is inserted
into the upper Rocker Arm
• Seal Air is pumped through the Lower Rocker Arm

rocker arm into the roller

assembly for to prevent dust Connection to hydraulic cylinder
penetration

Minimum Gap Roller – Table

• Roller Tires are highly Chrome-Alloyed, wear

resistant but brittle
• To avoid tire damage no tramp metal must invade
the Mill (metal reject system in feed transport), also
the rollers must not bump onto the table
• A minimum gap of 10 mm is adjusted by setting
mechanic Stoppers Stopper
• Maintenance to check adjustment every 3 months
• Lift Rollers – thread Stopper out 3 revolutions – set
10 mm Plate under Roller – lower Rollers – adjust
Stoppers until they touch the Rocker Arm – Lift
Rollers – extract 10 mm Plates!
• Gap will increase with wear and grinding efficiency
will deteriorate over time 10mm

Wear Measurement Roller Tire

• Using a template, the wear will be

measured approximately every three
months (as needed)
• The measurements will be recorded
and used to predict when welding or
exchange of the grinding elements
will be required Table Liner
• Max. Recommended wear before re-
welding 30 mm
• Max. recommended wear before
exchanging – until Production drops
• Do not forget to re-adjust Stoppers
• Roller measurement tool as per
drawing
Wear measuring tool
• Table = “straight edge” with markers

Welding Procedures for roller tires and table liners

• To be performed by experienced welding company
– Needs specialized equipment (automatic welding head, large welding gear)
– Will be done inside the mill with all parts installed
• The table is turned by means of an inching drive for the table liner welding
• When the table is finished the M-roll tires are lowered directly onto the table
• The inching drive turns the table, the table turns the rollers
• It is critical for both procedures to set-up the welding ground up properly, not to
damage bearings and gears.
• Generally, when welding table liners or tires check for
– All liners set tight and all clamping bolts torqued
– Tires set tight and all clamping bolts torqued
– Tires and table liners are not broken or cracked in any spot
– Tires and table liners should be built back up to the original profile
– App. 8 to 12 re-weldings possible
• Welding in external workshop also possible after dismounting all grinding
elements

Exchange of M-Roller Tire or complete Roller Assembly

1. Remove M-Roller Housing Covers (inner rubber seal and cover door)
2. Disconnect seal air and (if needed) lubrication hoses
3. Install blind plugs to avoid oil loss into breather (and open bores for hoses)
4. Install Swing out Devices (all parts)
5. Remove locking pins
6. Swing Roller out of mill
7. Remove Tire OR Remove Roller Assembly
8. Lift new Tire or Roller Assembly in position and tighten bolts
9. Secure bolts
10. Swing roller back into mill
11. Install locking pins (use swinging device for aligning bores)
12. Uninstall swing out device (all parts)
13. Remove blind plugs from oil lubrication connections
14. Re-Install seal air and oil lubrication hoses
15. Re-Install Roller Housing Covers (cover door and inner rubber seal)
16. Clean work area and store hydraulic cart / cylinder / hoses in clean and safe
area
It is recommended to have a Loesche Expert on site for supervision

4. Install Swing out Devices (all parts)

• 2 Pins to fix transition to Rocker Arm

• Swing-out transition for Rocker Arm
• 1 Pin to fix transition to cylinder shaft
• Maintenance cylinder (functional)
• Pin to fix cylinder to foundation eye-bolt
• 2 Connection hoses: Cart - Cylinder
• Hydraulic pump cart (functional, filled with oil)

LockingPin(s)

5. Remove locking pins

6. Swing Roller out of mill

Rocker Arm Shaft

To swing-out the M-Roller (S-Roller similar):

* Extend the maintenance cylinder shaft fully using the mobile hydraulic cart
* Attach shaft to swing-out transition part at rocker arm
* Remove the locking pins (1 per side)
* Use the hydraulic cart to move the maintenance cylinder shaft back in
* The roller will then pivot at the common pivot pin as it swings into the vertical /
maintenance position

Tire removal
• If necessary remove protective collar
around shaft
• Loosen the Nuts of the Clamping Bolts
• Remove Clamping Bolts and Nuts
• Remove Clamping Ring 42°

• Install lifting device (original delivered)

• Try to lift tire off the hub NOT using force
• If tire does not move install ring heater
• Heat the tire evenly all around using a Screws
gentle flame
• Loosen the tire from the hub and remove Fixing
Hooks Ring
• Remove tire using the original lifting
device and a crane
• Removal from the hub by force is not
permitted
