Literary Analysis Personal Comment: Analyzing every part of the

Writing Goal #1: #1. You do not focus on the quote making connections
deeper meaning or purpose here,
which are the various seemingly
and asking myself so what
inconsequential things that can questions everytime
result in Black people being
murdered by the police (although
you do touch on it briefly). Also,
the idea that one must “be
careful” is nowhere presented in
the text. 18/25 #3. Again, your
topic sentence does not get to the
main idea of this passage, which
is that the daily small acts of
violence perpetuated against
Black people is a part of a larger
cultural and historical trend. Also
again the idea that one can be
vigilant to avoid this fate is
actually contradicted by the text.
17/25 #4. In what way is this
passage meant to show the
extent to which he will go to
protect his son? In fact, he does
very little and he explicitly says
his rage was about far more than
the act. Was his son in any actual
danger here other than being
treated disrespectfully? 17/25

Literary Analysis Personal Structuring my analysis,

Writing Goal #2 #4 20/25 Your analysis lacks a creating an outline before
central point that relates to the
themes and ideas we discussed starting to write officially
in class. Although you hint at it,
this shows her naïve nature
that is shared by all of the
women in the novel toward
men. Also, the fact that he
tickles her foot is key here. #3
18/25 It is the prostitute’s
house that Frieda refuses to
enter. You also do not say why
they are at her house to being
with. You start by saying the
prostitutes have significance
without saying what it is! Your
analysis of “ruined” is
superficial and states the
obvious. Rather than steering
toward society’s view of them,
which is obvious, why not try
and unpack the author’s, which
is far more complex? How are
we meant to judge the
prostitute’s actions here? #1
19/25. Is there any indication
that Frieda’s family is so poor
they can’t afford to buy food?
Or is the mother just being
dramatic? Is there evidence
that the mother is actually
afraid versus merely annoyed?
Is this an example of the
indifference of adults toward
the experience of children that
we discussed in class?
