Good day, FLT Omar! I’m doing good and still kicking. Thank you.
These are my professional experiences as a 21st century educator.
1. Learning to know

Learning to know implies learning how to learn by developing one’s concentration,

memory skills and ability to think. As a teacher, I need to act as a facilitator, catalyst,
monitor and evaluator of learning. In my science class, I always let them have
collaborative activities in which they will have an experiment related to our topic. Before I
discussed our topic, I let them discover first through our activities and I will act as a
facilitator. I will just answer their questions and guide them on what they should do. In
that activity I can make sure that they learn something by discovering their actions,
through the experiment activity, then I will start explaining. Learners are curious and
excited, so as a teacher, I need to find exciting activities for them so that they will be
inspired and motivated. In that way they can learn easily and effectively.

2. Learning to Do

In learning to do, one must think creatively, critically and holistically. It represents the
skillful, creative and discerning application of knowledge. As a teacher, I agree that
students learn in a variety of ways, that’s why I need to find different teaching
strategies/styles in order for them to learn efficiently and effectively. In my science class,
I let my learners do hands-on activities, in which they can manipulate things, so that they
will not just imagine things. Like for example, in our science experiments, I provide them
the different science apparatus or different things needed and let them do experiments.
In that way, they can develop their creativity and they can apply their learnings not just in
school but also outside the school. Hands-on activities let the learner's minds grow and
learn based on their experiences and the environment they are exposed to. Let’s help
our learners become independent even in just simple ways.

3. Learning to Live Together

Learning to live together is the very foundation of education. It can be achieved by

developing an understanding of others and their history, traditions and spiritual values.
Learners are different, they are all unique, and they have different attitudes and culture.
As a teacher, I am tasked to create a school environment that respects, accepts, and
celebrates cultural diversity. I should help the students realize the value of being able to
live together, in their gradually enlarging world, it could be their home, school,
community city, town or country. I need to know the different cultural backgrounds of my
students, so that I will be the one to initiate things that my learners will follow, especially
respecting every individual inside our classroom. In my classroom, I have learners with
different cultures, but what I did is that I always and always explain to them that they
should unite as one, cooperate with each other, believe and respect each other so that
they will be happy achieving their goals together. I don’t allow bullying inside my
classroom, because I experienced being bullied before and it’s really not easy, it’s very
hard. That is why, as a teacher I need to be the role model inside our school, so that
learners will follow me and admire me for having good values in order for us all to be
united.

4. Learning to Be

Learning to be involves activities that promote holistic personal development (body, mind
and spirit), for an all-round complete person. As a teacher, I should not be stagnant,
especially that I am teaching elementary learners. Learners looked up to me for new
learnings, that’s why I need to develop my mind, body, and intelligence by participating
in professional development activities such as seminars and workshops on current
trends in instructions so that I will be an effective teacher to my learners. Having my
master’s degree and enrolling with SEAMEO is one of many ways that I will not be
stagnant, because it is for my professional growth. I need to learn more so that the
untold potentials within me will come out, I need to be myself. I need to be a good role
model in order for my learners to be a good role model too, because I think it could be
the most powerful way to develop creativity within them. If they will be a role model, they
will think of many things to improve themselves, because many people look up to them.
They will practice creativity in their daily life, as well as to develop imagination as an
element of creative thinking. They will work on themselves to know their untold
potentials, or to open the unopened within them. I need to help them bring out the best in
them by letting them experience freedom. Letting them talk and express their ideas in
every situation or topic we will discuss. I should make sure that I am happy with what I
am doing, so that my learners will be happy too. If I am happy, then my learners will be
happy too.
