Fat Tuesday as people call it, refers to events of the
Traditional Carnival celebration, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday, which is known as Shrove Tuesday. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", reflecting the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual Lenten sacrifices and fasting of the Lenten season. Related popular practices are associated with Shrovetide celebrations before the fasting and religious obligations associated with the penitential season of Lent. Mardi Gras celebration it’s about everything traditional from food, costumes, floating parades to music. During the pandemic in 2020 when the city announced there would be no parades in New Orleans during the upcoming Carnival season due to the coronavirus, Megan Boudreaux, a 38-year-old insurance claims manager began a movement called the floating houses where she decorates her house to look like a floating carriage. Later neighbors start to implement the idea & that led to invents a glorious new tradition with 'Yardi Gras' A fundraiser to help out-of-work artists turned into a movement that distills the essence of community during Carnival. In my opinion & correct me if I’m wrong this was an idea to the general audience to tell us that even when the worst has come we can still live our life, we can celebrate & nothing will stop us from doing what we used to do. I was surprised by the idea at first & how people can adapt to any situation. But what I found it interesting is how people respond to the idea & how fast it grows to be not only a way of saying “NO we will not stop celebrating” to pandemic, but a way to help people that their work actually depends on this day & it’s celebration.
